Ok feelas there are a lot of new and old guys here so I think we all can learn from each other on how to get a great team. Do you breed good kits or do you build on the ones your fling?

Both............

If you have a kit that you are flying right know, keep on flying them and learn from them. Breed a new kit or breed a few young to add to the kit you are flying. But remember when you add young birds to an old established kit, it will bring the birds that you are flying down to the level of the young birds you introduce to the older group. So you have a choice, that is why I say both ways.

What do you mean by "build" because to me both is the right answer. But in your context I guess breed would be the answer I think????? I hope by next year to have a kit of full siblings, maybe two. So I will breed to build on the kit I am flying.

What I mean is a lot of guys think I'll breed a kit and im ready so both is the right awnser. You have to breed a kit to start. But will that make you a contender in the bird world or do you have to build the team. Most if not all the great teams flying have birds from several different years in them thats what I mean by build.

you have to build a team it takes time because your best spinner or good spinners sometimes dont turn out to be good team players. so you have to play around with birds to see which ones are going to work best as a team. also i have found out that when you stick good young birds in they step up to the plate and get better just my experience

good answer Abel. you need to breed several to get that good kit and it takes a minimum of 2 yrs to get it going and another year or 2 to perfect it

Well Silver let me take a stab at this. I think that in order to build a great kit you have to build a great stock loft. They go hand in hand. If a bird can improve your stock loft then that is were it belongs. far to often I have seen at others as well as my own house were we just needed that bird in the kit for the rest of the season only to loose it to a hawk /falcon. 5 years ago I pulled 5 birds out of my a team a month befor the Fall Fly because in my eyes met all of the criterias that I have for a stock loft and I seen no reason to jeapordise them anylonger as I was already starting to get hit by the preditors. Helped my stock loft out immensly but really hurt my kit. Took me another year to get it back in shape but it was really worth it ten fold. For those that fly competition you must remember one thing. Without the stock to produce the QUALITY kit birds then you are just pissin in the wind and donating to the cause each year. Joe Urbon

Also Silve my last team that was split up last year was anywere from 1 year to 5 years. Building a team is not a 1 year venture. I think that you are continuously looking to improve the team and that means always looking for another bird that could replace one of the older birds. Dont get complacent, they all can be replaced at one point. Joe
