----------Hay just wanted to share with my fellow roller flyers. I rember reading a thread about video for our birds, With my experence it is really hard to getum on tape. So this weeek I started to do some research. I found a guy here outta Bakersfield, and talked to him in detail about what I was lookin to accomplish,, He was amped just as I was. We are still nogiating the price but roughfully it's gonna cost about $150 for a hour of raw footage, then he will widdle that down to about 20 or 30min of good footage and put it on a DVD, he says that he can zoom upto a half mile with clarity. So I am really excited I know it's kinda priceee but It's cheeper than a $1800 doller camera.... LOL at least for me.. If anyone else is interested let me know.. or I will just share the footage and we will go from there..1

That sounds pretty cool Booker. But I doubt he would come to Florida just for 150 bucks. Man I would like to film some of my Orientals and get it whittled down.
You need to have him put in some slow motion footage of the rolls.

Sounds like a great deal. I know it cost a lot to rent a professional. That is dirt cheap.
Let me know how things go, I would like a copy for my local club's library.

Not wishing to spoil the party, but I use a £3,000 video camera (you guys would pay around $5,000) and it doesn't record rollers very well at all. It's nothing to do with the guy behind the camera, nor the zoom, nor the quality of the lens; it's about the recording medium which most of us have access to at consumer/prosumer level.
When roller footage is slowed down, it's relatively poor because the camera can only record 30 frames per second for NTSC in the US, or 25 for PAL in the UK. It's just not enough, as a roller at full speed, is going faster than the average camera can record. So, when the footage is played back it doesn't look as impressive as when seen live with the human eye.
There are professional high-speed cameras which can record much more and are used for things like the slowing down of a golf swing or the wingbeat of a humming bird. A couple of years ago, someone I know investigated the hire of such a camera; it was $250 per day - without the operator.
