Sippi,
That wasn't a fair way to deal with almonds... First they were favored unfairly, then they were eliminated fron competition unfairly. Sounds like pigeon politics rather than a set of good rules.

At first glance I would say Tort Grizzle. Look at the feathers on the neck. If each feather is a single color it is and almond. If they are two colors it is a grizzle.

Boy this thread has produced some really good and interesting information. Thanks Paul, Sippi and all others. I have never had an almond or a qualmond and although I have not seen a good Qualmond in the air( I'm sure they are out there). I have seen some really nice almonds in the air. IN my experience however most Almond families that I have seen tend to be on the hot side. Alot of roll in them however. JMHO. Joe Urbon

Joe,
I now believe that my family carries the qualmond genes, based on the fact that the color comes out of non-qualmond parents. If I was to characterize them, I guess I'd have to ageee that they tend to be hot. Others have told me the same. In my loft, they're just another color. I don't breed them together..

Ya Paul I have never owned any but like I said I have seen some great almonds but there were alot of not so great ones to get the great ones. Qualmond is a color I seen for the first time only about 7 years ago and didnt see any of them roll but they were young birds. I purchased an almond hen in the NCRC futurity auction about 7-8 years ago for a friend of mine that was stating out in rollers and he asked me to get her if I could for him because he couldnt make it there. He had had Wests for many years and rollers in the past and figured if he was going to start out than he would rather start with the colors he wanted than try to creat them. She was a great bird in the air around 30 feet very consistant but she raised a whole bunch of roll down. I would bet she had sibblings and aunts/uncles that could tear it up and others that could really plant themselves. JMHO. Joe Urbon

Paul he also got some really nice andalusions from Randy Gibson and Doug Brown. They could really tear it up. Not sure if he is still using them or not but they were definately the better of his ( Color ) birds. Joe
