Ty, there is no reason in the world to go over 16 0/0 , I think once you go over 24 0/0 or so you'll see problems with feather and such

Just my Opinion

Scott makes a good point. There is probably no reason at all for us to feed our birds over 16% protein.

....however

A good 16% mix for pigeons is Purgrain Breeder/Conditioner.

NOTE: Purgrain Breeder/Conditioner has 16% and "NO CORN".

It contains: Canada Peas, Red Milo, White Kafir, Maple Peas, Oat Groats, Austrian Peas, Whole Wheat, Safflower Seed, White Millet, Red Millet, Canary Seed, Vetch, Buckwheat, Rice.

I would wholeheartedly recommend this particular feed for birds that need to pack on some muscle or raise stronger broods.

Andrew... 22% pellets you say.

Hmm interesting.....

Well then it must be something you give to your breeders. I'm sure you don't feed kit birds that stuff.

It is okay in my judgement to give an ailing/weak kit bird (or flying breed) a 16% conditioner in order to restore vitality and vigor. When the pigeon is back in prime health then a switch back to its normal flying diet would be advised.
