I think it is partly too much feed and they are feeling sexy.My homers do that after they have landed on the wire and lollygagging around the yard trying to woo the hens they take off with their crop all puffed up and clap their wings the first few wingbeats. My rollers will do that if they're too well fed and coming in to land and don't quite land and take off again.Definately a mating thing, and the way to cut back on that urge is to cut back on the feed. ---------- Kel. I sure hope that's not true about getting rid of the wing clappers! All of my birds do it, I can tell when one of my young birds are going to roll because just before they roll they clap their wings. I thought all rollers did that! I only have the 6 right now that I can fly, so I don't know about the next 11 coming out of the nest.

I don't like wing clappers; it is usually a cock bird and he has other things going on in his mind then I want him to have

Well I have some wing clappers too. Problem is I only have 8 total flyers doing short flights because they are still young and squeking. I have fed them just enough to keep them hungry. Still they are wing clapping. Possibly they are feeling happy or they must feel the "freedom of flying"? They aren't matured yet and the very first flights they started clapping. ---------- FLO www.blacked-out-loft.webs.com SAKTOWN, KALI4NIA

Cut the feed back on them. Most wing clappers if they are not young birds are looking for a mate. Cocky cock birds are very difficult to deal with. If they are hungry enough they wont think of anything but food. You may want to fly them with only other cock birds also. All Birds that Clap are eliminated at my loft...I also keep track of the parents and if they produce 2 clappers , they are also purged from my Flock....

Hey Pat, if they are young birds, just get them in shape and let them be birds for a couple months. Fly them, train them to trap to your cal, etc.
When the team begins to show signs of putting the roll together and if all these 3 cocks want to do is clap and say look at me, its time to remove them from your program as they will hurt the development of the others. ---------- FLY ON! Tony Chavarria
