Let me see if I can break this down for you. A roll is the action and the spin is the result of the action. If you roll a ball you roll it and it continues to spin until it stops. Now a roller has to physically make its body roll over each and every revolution so the answer to your question is they roll. We as breeders use the term spinnig to describe the velocity of the roll.

Man I have herd alot on this,,, I have birds that turn into a ball when rolling,, I have also heard that this isn't the Ideal.. I also have birds that If viewed from the side show a hole,, I have also herd that this means the bird isnt rolling with the ultimate velosity. I personally like the birds thet are a blur and tend to speedup twards the end... just my opion.. great question ....
