I have been reading how some over here believe that we Americans are pushing the breed forward.
So I have done a little research on how the "American" roller has done against the world.

Here are the results for the World Cup for the past 5 years Finals Fly offs:
2007 Finalists Top 10
U.S. 40 57% 4 40%
World 29 43% 6 60%

2006 Finalists Top 10
U.S. 41 59% 3 30%
World 28 41% 7 70%

2005 Finalists Top 10
U.S. 36 54% 3 30%
World 30 46% 7 70%

2004 Finalists Top 10
U.S. 40 58% 6 60%
World 29 42% 4 40%

2003 Finalists Top 10
U.S. 35 62% 3 30%
World 21 38% 7 70%

My research seem to show that the "American" roller is not fairing well compaired to the rest of the world.

Keith,

You are comparing American rollers versus the world. I think if you were to compare any country vs. the world you would get the same results. It appears that USA has a good portion of flyers in the top 10 every year and this is with the bad flying conditions and time. Now imagine what the percentage would be if we flew in BOP free conditions and without tough weather conditions.

A few finalist had teams that would be top teams but because of their losses to the bops or because of the horrible weather they didn't do so well. I'm sure everyone else has some of the same conditions but I don't think there as bad as it is here in the US. Just my opinion...

Now when you compare USA to other countries, it shows USA has the most almost every year out of the top 10.

Now that is an equal statistic.

USA all the way!!!

We are getting our asses handed to us , we carry what, 2/3rds of the finals kits ? and yet well below 50 0/0 of the top ten finalists.

part of the problem is quite a few weak regions make up some of it , while more competitive regions don't have the qualifiers to get in better kits, which would dance circles around the best kits in the weak regions.

Scott,

You are so right!! We have been getting our asses whooped!....Look at how many fliers we have compared to the other countries...and you are so right about the other regions..look at the Southern Cal areas...you have some top fliers and you can only take two...I bet in that region...you could take the top 6 or 7 kits and they would be up there....Second...The fact is....the "Best" Teams are not represented in the W/C fly.

The other fact is that it is all about "Any given Sunday".....you have that one day to hope your birds have it.....the best kit does not always go to the fly because of one bad day...anyway...this is what makes it fun...but anyway....

The US as a hole has had a difficult time showing their best for a long time. There are probably 30 kits in the So Cal area alone that could easily be in the finals but due to the quailfier restraints per region they never get there. However I am sure the same is found in the other participating countries. Look at South Africa. There are some huge regions over there and they seem to have been doing very well lately. all it takes is one hawk/falcon or a windy day or some other cause of nature and your chances are gone. I always figured there was only a handful of paricipants that thought they actually had a chance and the rest are just hoping for a good showing. Joe Urbon

I'm Proud to say 2 Thunderbirds members from our club came 4th and 5th last year on the world cup. 4th place Dave Vang ,,,5th Aris Punla not bad coming out of the same club . Both have bops problems and any other problem we all have .A Champion never has it easy thats part of being a Champion... weak regions ..strong regions...a Champion will Always rise to the TOP!!!

Scott,

I agree with you on this one - but mainly American pigeon flyers lack the discipline that our European friends have. Myself included.

All the BS about hawks, weather, waa , waa , whaa, is just that.

Regards,

Ken

PS. Hmm no fancy colors = higher % top 10 placements? Is that a causal relationship or merely correlated?

Sidlove,
I know something about the Thunderbirds club, up there around Fresno... They are really on top of all aspects of flying their birds with competition as their goal. I met David at thr last show I went to.
Thet are flying Arnold Jackson/Juan Navarro family of birds and are concentrating on quality, not just breaks. Speed and style are most important for them.
Their training and feeding prograsms are tight and well thought out.
But, from what I hear, they do not have nearly as bad a BOP problem as here in the Los Angeles area.

Paul, the "Thunderbirds" got their name by the wine they buy in gallon jugs LOL
Actualy Joes E. foundation pair was Navarro and a bird from Decker if I remember right, and they absolutly due fly some nice birds down there.
I flew against those guys for years in the regional flys and have been down there judging more than a few times, they are very dedicated and hardcore flyers.

Scott,

I beleive the foundation bird was a Navarro/Keith London cross. I might be wrong but I believe that's what Sid told me.

Efren , Sid drinks too much Thunderbird LOL , Joe is a good friend and we went toe to toe for quite a few years. It was from Decker, I suspect out of the Sammy Williams stuff that he had, that I'm not sure of though.

You must be right then. Funny Sid never mentioned Tim when he talked about the family. He told me that the Navarro bird was out of a Navarro and London cross. He must have been drinking then...lol
