I think Tony carries Tobacco Stems for that. I went out and found a long needled pine tree and scraped up a ton of long needles from underneath it. My birds love it!

Hello:

I used the long pine needle's and they work great. What you do is make a wire box and sit it in a corner where the birds can get to it. They will make there own nest, and the one's that don't do a good job of it I add some pine shavings to the nest bowl to help them out....Glenn

Being that I have tons of pinestraw available I use pine straw. I always put some in the nest just in case the cock is a poor nest builder. I also keep some in a box in the corner of the open lofts and add a handfull a couple of times a week to the single mating pens. The straw keeps the more dominant cocks occupied in the open loft and gives the cocks in the single mating pens something to occupy themselves with as well.

I use the nesting material that is already in the shape of the bowl.

I've been using the nesting pads with the plastic weave bowls this year and also throw pine needles on the floor in the corner for the birds to pick up and build the nest themselves. Many of the pairs have gotten lazy and don't bother bringing the pine needles to the nest just using the pads and they wear the middle of those pads out after a couple rounds.

Do you like them Kel! I'm fixing to commence building some individual breeder pens and I haven't decided on all the details yet. I've always built my own nest boxes, but been wondering about these nestbowls and pads!

Val,
I use the laimnate wood floor padding. Its about 1/4 inch thick felt pad. I got a nice piece of it off a job site a couple of years ago. Just cut to fit,and it works great.

Hey Kenny,Howsitgoinman??I gotta find some of that stuff you got.The circle pads Tony sells are cut to fit nice and tight and yeah Val,they are nice and easy to clean a pad lasts a couple of rounds at least, the plastic bowls are strong and stay nice and dry shaped so the poops eject nicely onto the wire cage floor and the tray below.Groovy.
