I have patiently waited for 18 days for eggs to hatch. Unfortunately I have not disturbed the nest or checked on the eggs. Since they were supposed to hatch yesterday I checked them today. One was black with cracks in it. I broke it open and it is rotten. the other egg is white with no cracks. Any way to see if it is any good, or should I chuck it? I am way diappointed that the egg is bad and am holding out hopefor the other.

Check it with a flashlight tonight! If you can see through it, chunk it! If it is dark inside and you can see an air pocket on one end, it might still be good! ---------- Val

If the remaining egg hasn't been pipped by now, most likely it isn't furtle. I would chuck it and get on with starting over.

wait two more days the bad one might have been laid first. Check it with a light. If the insides are solid looking it might be okay. If it is runny chuck it. Hold it to your ear and listen for the chick pipping. g/l ---------- V99 Straight up,no chaser.

Most likely not good. Clip the vents on both birds and try again. Do not open the bad egg in your loft! Take it else where.

Thanks guys, I needed to know what to look for with the light and you came through like usual. This is the first time this pair has laid. So hopefully it is a first timer thing. Thanks again. ---------- RT Williams

Okay, I chucked the eggs because they were bad when I flash lighted them. The pigeon has laid one egg already. 5 days after I took the eggs away. However it has been 3 days since she laid that egg and has not laid a second. Will they lay only one egg once in awhile? Thanks for the help
