I flew my birds yesterday to. I have had them about two weeks. They have been in and out and on top but always in a cage. I took them out Friday and taped their wings. Saturday i let them out and some flew around and some went to the ground to eat. One flew away. I am happy that they stayed around the kit box. I hope that I am doing it right but I plan to just let them get used to the new area the first couple of flights. After that I will flag them up and keep them flying. I want them to know how to find the kit box, and know that it is safe, and that is where their food is, then I will push them. That is my plan. i hope it works.

If I was trying to home in birds for the first time I would only want them going to the roof, and then back in , that is called "homing".
RT , sounds like you are spot on with it, they gotta know where their perch is, that is theirs and that is what they bond to.

Yeah RT you going good.. slow, patience is the key. and don't worry if a bird goes to a rooftop the first time out, just make sure they are hungry so they don't stay too long .let them hang on there rooftop and know it is safe and they can trust you around them..soon they would wanna go up and back to home..where they is food and a safe perch waiting for them.

Jerry make sure that birds is really hungry next time out and don't force her out until she want to come out.she tell you when she is ready, you control then with the food remember.. and if she goes back to the same spot don't let her out till a couple of days and don't let her fly with the other ones because she will take all of them with her.. better to spot a trouble maker from the beginning and adjust from there.I had birds the first time out fly to a roof two blocks down but never to do it again.they scare nervous.feeling things out.but don't get mad or piss you want nothing to block you from learning...good luck.

Letting them go to the ground and eat is a really bad habit. I would be tickled if mine went to the roof and back in the first time. I never let mine land anywhere but the roof or the landing board. Anything else is bad news later on.

My fly away came back the next morning. the birds got a little extra food and it went right in. I have let them out again and they trap pretty quick. I have one bird that I have used to help train the others. It is worthless other than it knows how to find the food dish quickly. The others follow it right in. It must hate me it goes in takes a few with it, I catch it, throw it out, it comes back taking a few more with it. lol
unfortunately it likes to eat off the ground, and takes them to the ground with it. I will have to hold it until I want them to come in. But for now it has helped home the others.
