Hey I was just wondering, is there any kind of thing you can put into the birds bath water to clean them even more, and give them a nice coat? SOMETHING THAT WONT HARM THEM AS THEY DRINK IT!

yeah, the natural stuff with mother.I suppose regular white would work for feathers but the ACV is best as they always drink some bath water.

Kel nailed it, look in Tony's store for the A.P.C. and it's also great in their water. Epsom Salts will brighten their white flights.

I've been told by oldtimer that a few drops of bleach is good too but soon as I tried it those birds would rather stay dusty

I believe when raplh states blue he is referring to blue Iodine. It really brightens up the whites.

Blueing is the product name that we used. Winn Dixie carries it. but they are only in the southeast. Might can get it at the drugstore also. Too much will leave a slight bluish tint to the white birds though. We used it on white show chickens before a show.

Guys ,i only place a little salt in my birds bathwater,it kills any parasites without harming the feathers ,any kind of washing powder will take out the fat content and they will be soft feathered and wont perform as good ,jim.uk.

In the old days the women used "Bluing" to whiten white clothes, it is synthetic Ultramarine or Prussian Blue and washing soda. Too much will cut the oil off the feathers.

Down the bayou the "Hoodoo Doctors" use it in concentrated form to make Mojo hands for luck in gambling and protection from the haints! LaRon you must remember this!

As a kid, I had 10 White Rock chickens I was trying to get ready for the State Fair Poultry Show, Grandmamma used the bluing to whiten Grandpop's shirt so I sloshed each chicken up and down a couple of times in the bluing tub then in the rinse tub they got real white but ended up looking like huge cotton balls as they dried feathers sticking out in all directions.

Got a goooooood licken for that one!

Maybe that's why I hate a white shirt to this day! I must be psychologically scarred! Wonder if I need counseling?????

Hey KellyIt !
It is funny now as I look back on it, but Grandpop trying to wear out the check reins on my backside was no laughing matter!
