tou...i think ur not think-it-tive yet...y would u say a parlor can fly..?unbelievable....well not to be mean..they lived on ground...plus u can try to fly them if u want..but to tell u they wont be able to fly up one feet...just my thoughts..u can fly them if u want...hope they kit...
tou, this is not a parlor roller forum! I do raise a few and I keep my breeders in individual cages, just like my BRs, my young are kept in 30"x24"x18" high compartments, 6 to a box! They exercise by flapping their wings, so don't overcroud!
I don't starve any of my birds! They get about 1&1/2 tbs a day! Handle them often and adjust the feed acccordingly!
You can Google search the words "Parlor Rollers" and get to several websites that specialize in the breed!
I dont raise Parlors so some of you that do might chime in and correct me if needed but it has been my experience that Parlors, like rollers take time to come into the roll and as young birds they can fly quite well. Some take longer than others but there is a time when they ground themselves. Joe Urbon ---------- J.M.Urbon Lofts A Proven Family of Spinners http://www.freewebs.com/jmurbonlofts/
Tou they dont do well in kit boxes. Some will fly for sometimes as long as six months. Some will roll as soon as they come out of the nest. They will all eventually ground themselves. They will also eventually roll down if you fly them. I usually put mine in a pen that is four foot high with a roost up about three feet. When they can no longer roost they are ready to roll. Google APRA and that will take you to the American Parlor Roller Association and you can get help and info there.
Parlors are a really strange bird no doubt. You only need perches for them in the loft till they learn how not to fly, then once they get to that stage they become good doorstops in the loft as they are always on the floor and won't bloody well move so,,,,yeah, nothing but a pain.People visiting the loft think it is pretty weird to be keeping such an animaland i'm already weird enough without adding to it. ---------- Kel. i keep my parlors in pens tat are big enough for them to flap their rings and walk around but small enough also so it discourages them to start rolling off. I would say perches wont really work cuz then next thing u know their gonna start to roll off from the perches. As for the feedin i try not to starve them, from wat i saw of my birds if they are a lil heavy they tend to spend off faster and with more power. Just my opinion.

Tou vang you are right all Parlors don't roll long and yes some do just flip once or twice. There is a such think as compitition parlors all parlors are not breed for long distiance rolling.
A parlor that does a single roll and up to three rolls are known as parlor tumblers after three rolls they are parlor rollers.Ive had them fly for 6 months before and in my experience the ones that fly the longest were the poorest quality birds. Most are bad parents and its common for them to nock the young out of the nest. I would use fosters with them often. They can be fun to play with at times and the kids love them but they dont match up to the BR. ---------- Ty Vapor Trail Lofts
i got parlors also..but for fun...but those that dont roll on ground..they tend to roll toward my grill..and my mom and dad love them.....they better learn or they dont learn at all (the hard way)...well good luck if u tend to raise them...like kham said..its much harder to take care of them then the BR's...
here the video....this is a cock tat i obtained form david vang. About 3 weeks after dave gave it to me it ground so it has been in the pen his whole life. this is his first time rolling and first time out of the pen. also my first time rolliing a parlor too lmao. Jus depends on how good u are taking care of and training ur parlors. Parlorfancier916 more of a pro in this parlor thing and he got some birds tat rolls out pretty good.
the good thing about a parlor is if you give me one that is 4 yrs old i can let it out and it won't fly away ..lol.. hey do these birds come back to the kitbox when they out rolling on the ground..just curious about this.. ---------- Ralph
tou it depends on wat u want...these work for well for me. as for the perches its totally up to you..if u install it then install it kinda low so the birds wont be rolling off of it. perches arent really necessary.I just put it up so my parlors can use it and so they wont be jumping on top of my feed containers and start pooping on the containers.
