How important is it to you to know what is behind a person’s bird when obtaining birds from that person?

In reality if you have seen them fly more than once and like what you saw probably not important at all. But for me I like the history of the family as well as the family.
Knowing what is behind them wont make the fly or act any different. I just like to know.

Good answer, some buy birds for the name behind them, instead of waiting to see what they can do in the air.

If you can’t see them in the air, the next best thing is to look at is the breeder’s accomplishments. He may have Higgins, Reed, or Houghton birds, but what is he doing with them? if he cant fly them ,why buy them?

Rollerman132, That is a great point. Far too often guys are mulled into buying birds from somebody because of the name behind them. Often times that name behind them has been gone for a looooong time. Always watch the birds. If you cant watch them today them make a point to come back befor you buy.
I had a guy come by my house about 4 years ago and had gotten birds from a fellow club member and all he could do was talk bad about ol so and so's birds. Me knowing that this other breeder sold his culls for a couple bucks each to the local kids all the time and was always very upfront about them being culls I told this guy that is why he would never get birds from me. He didnt know I was friends with this guy and when I confronted him about it he admitted to me that he was told that they were culls when he bought them.
Always do your homework. If you fail to then there is nobody to blame but yourself. JMHO. Joe Urbon ---------- J.M.Urbon Lofts A Proven Family of Spinners http://www.freewebs.com/jmurbonlofts/
