I like the magazine, but I am tiring of the front that many of the LA area breeders are putting on. When the photos are being taken they front with the "no smile" look....you know the the tough guy look. Great for the kids to look at a bunch of adults in this hobby that are looking like gangsta's instead of being free of that shit and in this hobby.
It is all a front. I am not saying "scratch when it doesn't itch; laugh when it ain't funny", but you need to be smiling over a good thing and this hobby is a good thing. There has to be some joy to be found now that you have found the Rollers.
It is just my look at things and I ain't you so I probably have no business with my critisism. Many have been put through some bad time; I understand that.

Paul, I enjoyed reading your story. It reminded me of my beginning with the birds as a teen in Norwalk.
Man, everybody had birds when I was a kid! There were at least a dozen lofts within a few blocks of my house and we all knew each other and handled each others birds. The one that got me hooked on rollers wasn't as good as yours though, mine only rolled 8 times in a row...LOL
We all got ripped off all the time too, only to later find out the bird/birds were usually in a 'friends' loft...LOL
I never met Pensom, but Bob Scott was friends with the owner of the feed store in Norwalk and I obtained my first 'real' rollers from Bob Scott family of Pensoms. Funny thing is, he wanted more money for the pedigrees than I paid for the birds...LOL Luckily the owner of the feed store flew Bob's rollers too and told me what they were out of. Mostly 'red headed hen' and 514.

Congrats to you!
The article was a great read and it was well deserved.
We met last month after the show in Compton, I asked you your name and you said.."Paul Gomez, thats me on the cover of that book in your hand."
you had some beautiful birds with you and a beautiful trophy to go with them.
Much respect and congrats on the magazine cover/article.

It was not directed at you. If you would look through all the issues you will find a pattern evolving purposely not to smile. It is a front that some have taken up and it does not abide well for the hobby. Look back over some photos taken and posted on this site and you will find the same disgruntled look from those who are even involved in a roller outing or show. It has to be a front to keep the boggie man away either it be imaginary or real.
I do like the magazine and I will stay subscribed to it. I think it will grow and flower into something special.

Hey Paul, sorry, I know there is another similar thread that is up. It is natural to want to share our 15 minutes of fame, but posting these pages right out of the magazine such as they are goes beyond what is called "Fair Use" of such materials.
I know it would bother me if someone was publishing my materials in another place without my permission. I will have to add this to a new updated Posting Policy.

Hey Paul, i enjoy the Mag especially reading that your mom flew your birds took care of them too put a smile on my face now that was a first for me, one of a kind Paul.one of a kind..
Nick you think those guys are putting on a front I think you looking at the real deal .I can relate to some of these guys because of where i came from see to me i see them smiling even if you can't see them smiling.In time you will see a smile .
