No they tend to stay there for a long period of time and then flys again. but I dont want them to get use to landing on the wire poles or trees. I want them on the top of the loft instead and I guess they're just too use to the flagging. Also the rollers that is not spook out by flaggin are young rollers only. So then I let two older rollers with them and the two older ones does fly away when I flag them. any suggestions? maybe its jus the young rollers...

I would hold the food of the bird's not flying .. keepum seperate,, and let them up by them selves... get them used to comming down to the loft for the food.. once they have done that for awhile then I would start working them harder...just takeum back to step one,,, hope this helps..

Get them hungry. Then put them in a box and walk them a couple of blocks away from the wire and the loft. Then shag their butts. Immediately bring them down to trap after they fly. If they need to be hungrier, so be it. Keep walking them away from the area for release until you have them to the point of landing on the roof of their loft immediately. The ones that persist on the wire after a few weeks of this are to be relocated to another loft, such as a buddy who doesn't have wires.

It all started when you scare them and the only place they feel safe is the wires. So now they want to land where they feel safe.

I learn to never scare them from the loft when they are young birds. Just open the door and let them fly on theire own. It takes not much time for them to be train I have some that in a couple of days of been out they kit. Aswell as other guys the same thing.

Don't over feed them that is one problem you are making right now.

I have some young birds that have 4 days out and already started to fly and almost kit and land in the roof. I don't scared them because I want them to feel safe in the loft.

Are birds were bred to fly and roll so they like to fly and roll. If they don't they are too fat and they learn bad habbits real easy.

Don't feed them before you fly them and make them learn your calling call when you feed them. So every time you feed them they hear the same call. When you want them to go inside you call them and they will go in. The ones that don't go in I don't feed them for that day. The next day they will be the first ones in or do the same thing. You really just need to feed them 1 table spoon / bird that's all.

Before you try something new lock them up for 1 week and feed them little by little. The day you fly them take them a couple of streets down and they will fly back home. If they don't go in you are still feeding them too much. So you will have to feed them less, you want them to land on your hands with food. Keep doing this every day and then you will just open the loft and they will fly with out you doing nothing all.

Rocky,

Your young birds suffer from worms. Give them worm medication and that should take care of it for you. They will want to fly after you get rid of the worms. Worms causes stiff joints which is painfull for the birds when flying. Good luck.

Quick you right on the money...I wouldn't give my birds meds unless I'm sure..I had birds bank in the past and it was bad management not worms. so make sure you look at your self first before looking at the birds. are you feeding them right are you scaring them too much like flaging...what are you doing wrong.then go from there...

well I think the Im not scaring them too much...like I only flag them when they jus land on the pole for way too long...I mean like almost two to threes hours there. so I;m thinking its the food that I put in too much..what do you think?

2 or 3 hours ,,,that is the problem..when my bird would bank the first time all i will do is whistle that bird would be right back on my roof..cut the feed .keep them in for a few days so they forget that pole.and don't bother them do what these guys suggest up there box them and reward them when they come to the loft..good luck...they just fat and lazy to me..feed me alot too and all i want to do is sit and watch TV ,forget cutting the grass..:))

Yes, you are feeding them to much food. My birds fly for around 20-30 minutes and when they land in the roof I call them and are inside the loft in less than 10 seconds.

That is a real easy question to answer.

If cutting the feed doesn't work, half fill a milk jug with water and throw that on the roof or even spray a hose or throw half a bucket of water at them.

Ask yourself when was the last time you wormed your birds? You will be surprised with the outcome. It doesn’t cost me much to give you a sound advice and it cost me nothing just to read your post and move on. Did you worm your breeders before breeding?

I did worm the older birds but the not the young ones yet. I haven't feed the birds all day yesterday and this morning when mixing the food, they jus seem attractive to the sound of mixing. they all fly and hang on the the wires. what do you think? are they starved enough? or more..

When you call them down with what ever way you do it and they don't react thats how you know if they starve enough.
If you let them developed a bad habit from the get go as youngster when they mature its hard to break.
Act fast learn from them so that they can learn from you..consistency is the key.

Don't fly them for the week and worm them like Jay said just incase. When you give them the worm tablets remember to give them Epson salt the next day and again Empson salt in 10 days for the eggs to flush out. Read how much you have to give them.

Also give them pure milo for a couple of days so they drop some fat. After you think you have them under control you can give them pure wheat and this will make them sky high. Depending on the time you want them to fly you give them more or less. Depending on how high you want them to go you drop them by adding Milo to the wheat.
