I am trying to optimize reproduction out of my good pairs. I have a pair that I could use as foster. They are on eggs due to hatch 6/17/08. How long after they hatch will she lay new eggs. I have a good pair from jay Starleys line that I want to time right. they just laid aggs. i am wondering when to take there eggs and place under another foster to get them to lay so i can put there next eggs under this foster pair? Thanks for the help This pigeon managing is almost as much fun as flying the birds. ---------- RT Williams

Usually about 21 days. Sometimes sooner and sometimes later. I have had them lay in 10 days and my best pair only lays once a month at best.

When my birds are in full swing, they lay again about 15 days after the eggs hatch.

Some birds lay evry 10-12 days but some only every 3 weeks or more like 30 days like Sippi's says about his pair there.1st round fostering is easy 2nd-3rd round get tougher and tougher to syncronize 'em. ---------- Kel. Rum-30 Lofts

RT,
Most of the time, your pairs need to lay within 3 days of each other. If you can catch the eggs before the hen starts sitting them you can take em in the house for a couple of days and maybe get 5 days. As to the other question, they usually lay again around 18 days after hatch, but it does vary.

Thanks for the help the Dates don't work out. The foster pairs eggs would hatch Two days before I would want to put the desired pairs eggs over there. The Desired pair would then hatch two days later. Would using wooden eggs help help make this work? Also can pigeons see in color? just wondering if the plastic easter eggs could be used? Thanks for your help

pigeons do see in color. Thats why we use brightly painted colors on our mobile lofts.

thanks for the info. Does putting the eggs in a cool dark place stop development of the embryo or slow it down. I guess I am asking is if I place an egg at 55 degrees for 5 days does that mean the egg will hatch 22-23 days after being laid? Also what is the longest time span you can delay the hatch? Thanks

The developing doesn't start until the eggs are incubated.once its incubated its the normal count of days take into effect. ---------- Ralph

Is temperture.the warm of the mothers body . You can use a incubator and the eggs will hatch..but not the same as the mother or feeders manufacturing pigeon milk.. ---------- Ralph

The best thing to do is get 2 to 3 pairs of feeders for every breeding pairs you plan on using.. after you pass on 2 or 3 rounds let your stock bird sit on one round.. Ralph
