Sounds like they need lots of mineral grit. Oyster shell and mineral grit.

Sounds like an infection of the reproductive glands. I think salmonella can do this? I am not sure but something like it can mess up the hens... ---------- FLY ON! Tony Chavarria

I would go with Tony on this one and then add grit and oystershell. I keep it free range in the loft. ---------- Ty Vapor Trail Lofts

Hi Chris_sclarollers,
I've not yet seen Pigeons that laid eggs with out Shell... but when I was a child, I do remeber seeing chicken eggs with out shells. In this case I would agree with Tony.

Chris, give a 1/4 of a Tumms (for heartburn kind) everyday until she lays again, there is nothing better for such a problem ---------- Just my Opinion Scott

Sounds like Scott is saying they need Calcium. That what tums would have that would help I would think. A good mineral grit has a lot more than a tums doesn't it? I'd just be worried about the other drugs that's in Tums that the birds don't need! Just my opinion!

Guys have been using tums for alot of years with no side affects. Scott wouldn't have recommended it if it was going to harm the birds. Joe ---------- J.M.Urbon Lofts A Proven Family of Spinners http://www.freewebs.com/jmurbonlofts/

I,ve got a '03 hen doing this. Her eggs look like a soft powdery cover. They are always on the ground and there is usually just part of a shell laying there! I think there is one out there, I will look and try to get a pick tommorrow!
I think it is a little different than what Kenny is showing! Of course their always dried up when I find them! She act as if she gets bound for a few days brefore she lays them cause she will set in the nest for a few days and then I always find them on the ground! She has done this about three rounds now and she is taking several weeks between rounds!
I bought some Tums tonight, I will start her on them tommorrow! Don't know if it will help! She looks very healthy on the perch!
Any ideas? Can they look copletly healthy and still have an infection in their reproductive organs? ---------- Val

Val I found it in the nest. When I gave it to the dog it was still mooshy. I get a few clears and thin shells on the first round occasionally. This one came from youngish hen on her first season as a foster. ---------- V99 Straight up,no chaser.
