My friend Elwood often sows up his birds after a hawk attack... I'll ask him if he's willing to help you out?? Are you willing to drive to south Los Angeles???

Hey Norm, according to Dr Colin Walkers book "The Flying Vets Pigeon Health Management", air under the skin can be removed with a hypodermic syringe and needle. He mentions putting the bird in isolation and give it antibiotics. P290.
He also mentions that this can be caused by striking an object while flying...Hope this helps! Good luck. ---------- FLY ON! Tony Chavarria

Tony's right if the air under the skin is the result of a ruptured air sac. If that is the case, make a small hole with a sterilized needle in the distended skin, use your fingers to gently press the air out. You may need to do this several times before it resolves.

Glad the bird is going to be ok!
Kel .. here's a link for you about air sacs and such: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bird_anatomy
Basically what happens is that when an air sac gets ruptured and air is escaping into the body of the bird, then bird becomes like a big balloon. The condition can be very uncomfortable for the bird and so severe that it becomes unable to eat, drink, poop, or even stand or perch normally. Just draining out the air for a day or a few days is usually all that is needed.
