Val,LOL!!! Good Idea! Only problem is if I did it with my mother in law,I'd stay out of the loft too!! I always thought about putting up one of those cameras you use for deer hunting,it takes the pic when it detects motion.Atleast you'd have a pic of who was by or in your loft. Nick
Yea then the thief would have a nice camera too. I have 2 Spanish Water Dogs, only problem is that they won't go outside without me being their with them. They have a half acre to play out back and they want to be sitting inside. I'd set up some kind of alarm that when they open the door it wakes the whole neighbor hood. Be cheap and you don't need to feed it or pick up crap.
Bertie,They make a steel box that the camera mounts in and then bolts to a wall or tree.If you or your dogs didn't hear them trying to break it open,I wouldn't feel safe sleeping in your house!!! LOL!! Nick
Well we don't have stealing problems here anyway. I have been here over a year and only heard one siren of a police vehicle. Now when I was living in Salt Lake City any time of day or night you go outside and you would hear a sirens. That's why I moved to the country to get away from the people. How much is a camera setup? .
Only one thing about watch dogs that I don't like. I had a rottwieler for years ( and never could spell it right)We has several people throw poison meat over the fence and within an hour or so the dog wasn't in any shape to bark. I'd hate my dog to get poisoned protecting my pigeons.
TOU.....Everyone has their own type of ANTI-THIEFT devices. And they all work very well. I use a simple motion detector device, hooked up to a quartz outdoor light. The slightest movement turns the spot light on. This works especially good against the nightly visitors (animal wise) that come around.........LOL
BERTIE.....As for the poison. It's a simple matter of training your dog NOT to eat anything, until your give the COMMAND that its okay to eat it. I have several clients that request that I train this technique to their dogs and them too. I also train ALL my dogs this too. ---------- Fly High and Roll On Paul

Hey, a good device would be a door alarm. When they break the lock and open the door, the alarm will go off loud and it will wake you up if your not a person who sleeps deep. Door alarm is cheap even 99cent store has them sometime it works pretty good.
why dont you get a dog like mine or something else and then chain the dog next to the loft so it dosnt go any where and they dont get close to the loft ---------- Watts uppp homeboy
I got a very nice bird Stolen from my A-team and no I have my loft wired to my home alarm system and I have a nice Cam set up.....I also have light that are on motion sensors and at night I also have door alarms that we use for Manual pull stations...so when a door opens it lets out a HUGE sound...anyway....still from me once shame on you...steal from me twice shame on me.
holy shit you guys all live in rough country as far as I know we are not looseing to many birds to rip offs here on the west coast of canada, besides a good dog will take care of matters.,,,,,, jimmi
When you live at the end of a half mile dead end with no neighbors you dont have many worries with night visitors. Plus I have six bear dogs, four catahoulas, four rat terriers, one pit dog and plenty of guineas that roost around my lofts. My friends dont even come around after dark!!
what if you tried covering your loft up and jus leave a some space on the top for air circulation with a gigantic lock...? I mean it's like a three peace lock...can they still get in...
