I once visited a guy in Long Beach two guys actually which lived very close to Cal Worthington Ford, don’t remember the name of either person, this was around 1980 and one guy was quite old at the time, and if any of you guys could refresh my memory of their names please do so as it is driving me crazy. I did buy the best roller I have ever seen that day in Long Beach calif from that old man. This bird was the only 100 footer I have ever seen. Plus great speed and a tight doughnut hole.
I know there are birds out there that do this or more, but this is the only one I have ever seen perform like this to this day in 50 years of rollers, and like a Big Big Dummy got talked out of the bird by Lloyd Johnson in San Fernando Valley calif. In trade for a Chinese Owl for my wife and $100.00 Dollars.
I herd He called this cock Laser, and bred up his laser line from this cock after 30 years this Haunts me to this day, The vision of the roll of this spangled, black, white, lavender, splash, I called Drip is burned into my brain as if saw it today Whoooo I cant Sleeeeppppppppp I CANT SLEEEEEPPPPP.

Bill,

There was a old timer named Andy that lived in that area and he was known for some really deeep birds. I think he was right off Bellflower or maybe it was Lakewood???

Anyway, He also dabbled in color projects and had some Roger Baker blue lace as well as an old family of Fireballs in addition to his Pensoms. From what I recall he was pretty well known as a feather merchant and had a long standing feud with Bob Scott about an incident that took place at one of the early roller shows.

Sound like the same guy?

Russ

That guy you call Andy the feather merchant must have been the same person with a roller add in the American Pigeon Journal. I visited him several times and he lived around Long Beach, California. His lofts were built around his back fence and the new birds were in a seperate loft. I saw some good looking birds in his backyard. Andy didnt seem interested in flying with any roller club but enjoyed buying and selling rollers. He kept the best birds everytime he bought some other lofts. Although some good ones were sold if a person paid a good price. Jack Myers lived in Long Beach during those years and knew all the ole timers. It was definely enjoyable meeting and visiting those ole timers in the sport. Ray
