Does anyone know why someone would buy any pet from a pet shop? Most of them are animals from puppy or kitty mills or birds that the breeders couldn't sell, you might say the bottom of their barrel!
Has anyone here ever got a good roller from a pet shop?

my first Roller was from a Pet shop ( Weses in El Monte) and I wish to this day I had twenty like him.

I did not know anything about how to fly Rollers , I used to fly him strait out of the loft with food in him and he would put on a hell of a show.

I was always into pigeons as a kid and probably had everything but rollers. When i got older and into the rollers I made the mistake of going out and buying feed store birds. I must have spent about a hundred bucks on unknown pigeons. lol I ended up taking them right back to the feed store.

didnt even try to breed from them.

tested a few in haste to get some birds up before I connected with some good breeder guys....just about every bird from the feedstore was a disaster..but on a positive note I kept losing them do to impatience with settling teqniques n feeding amounts and so on so I guess they helped knock the rust off my handling having been away from the sport so long....haven't lost a youngster yet!

I got my first birds from the feed store. Not rollers just pigeons, I thought they were great. Pet stores could be a good place to get fosters or just get started. These stores often times have information to clubs, and people who can help out. they can be of value to visit and sometimes support.

I rember getting petstore rollers from a place in Lynwood, ca, in the early "80's" all I renber is this place had a big rabbit on the roof. I got some good rollers from this place, alot of rolldowns but I rember a little redw/f beard that was really fast not too deep but really fast. My mom would take me there to spend my allowance, but after she saw a couple crash she sut me down....LoL

I'm pretti sure they are diffrent,, the ones I was exposed to had alot of diffrent pet's.. and some of the shops used to actually fly rollers... I rember my dad took me to a place in or near downtown L.A and the owner only flew common marked roller's checks, blue bars, he sold any colorful bird... his thought was that it would keep the thieves away,,, back in the day they were ruthless...LOL

Rollin..

What got into your loft was a coon. They eat the brain of the pigeon and destroy as many as they can for that tasty brain.

I have considered taking some to the flea market. Then the question of ethics come into play. What I would take would most likely be culls for the most part. I am not gonna sell good birds at the flea market for some kid to lose. I could use a few bux to help out with the feed bill too. It could also be an avenue to get more guys started, but if you sell em culls... What does one do?

I would say because some roller men would not consider giving out some birds. They would rather make a buck. The pet store or feed store would be a direction some would go, reason being its a start. That was my experince in the past. Some guys think they are the master flyers or breeders. Heads get too swollen they are ready to burst. My two cents!!!
