I think I am going to have to try a portable kit because the bop problems are way too bad.. Is anybody successful with these. How many birds will I love if I fly a portable kit of lets say 5. Do the bird have to live in 24/7 or Can I put them in the portable kit when I want to take them somewhere else to fly?

Thanks,
Andrew

Well i heard from a man that has a portable kit he takes his out of state. He told me that they are there 24/7 except when they are flying. Anyone else heard of something differnt??

How long to they have to be homed in the area you want to fly them from.. Like how long to they need to be in that cage on top..

Hi Andrew,
Home is home, be it a portable kit or a stationary box in your yard.
Wherever they learn to trap from is their home and thats where they go back to.
So, if you want to fly a portable kit, pick the birds that will live in that kitbox and keep them there. I dont believe they would work for you if you try to move them back and forth to different boxs. Your losses to overflys would probably outweigh the BOP losses from a stationary kit.
Good luck with them either way you choose. It is an interesting thought to fly portable. It would be a great way to bring attention to our sport, if done properly. That means healthy birds and an extra clean kitbox, every day!

thanks a lot sundance.. Can I have a little bit of light in my portable it box? If a bop shows, are all of my birds gone? Should I try and fly in big open fields... And would you possibly know an approximate size for one.. sorry for the all the questions..

Andrew,
I am just getting into flying mobile using a 2' X 2' X 3' box similar to ones I saw on a couple of European roller flyer's web pages.

Shoot me an email and I'll share the sites with you my email is on the profile.

Sippi, Wafer kits, and some others on here have much experience flying mobile.

Andrew there are two ways to fly mobile. One is with a permanent kit box on wheels and the other is a portable box that they learn to home to. Every one that uses the Euro box (one like Snake Doctor is talking about) uses droppers. The sites Snake Doctor is going to give you explains all about the Euro box. The box on wheels is easy. The birds live in it. Black out is not required.

With the Euro box you have to have very tame birds. They need to be hand tame and very well trained to work with this kind of setup. I havent used this setup yet. I am just building my box.

Nico Girard has the best site to look up Euro boxes. He is the European champion for 2007. He put a video up on the FORS site for us to look at.

Look under either chat or pictures and he has a video. I am building a collaspable kit box like his now.

If you decide to persue this further PM me and I will send you an article I wrote on the subject.

The mobile is all I fly. I had to do it because of BOP plus I have virgin timber in my yard and couldnt see my birds.

Thats pretty much the same problem I have Sippi.. Most of My birds are very tame and I'm scared to fly them because they might get eaten. I was going to try this kind of set-up and fly my not-so-tame birds..

Thanks for all the info guys!
