Just wanted to share my kit box that I recently completed. It's 4'x4'x3' , will hold 28 birds and was fairly inexpensive to build.

I really like the look of that box man. Kinda got a real classic look to it. And a nice designfor the base. It looks to be real sturdy. Only thing I dont get is I see so many with little untreated legs on them. Here, we maybe get more rain or bad weather, but if it is touching the ground and the wood aint treated lumber, its gonna rot in a year or two.
Just my opinion, But I want my stuff to last more than a couple years. The extra cost for a couple treated 4x4 posts is well worth it. ---------- Butch @ Sundance Roller Lofts

Sundance ,
You made a good point and that is something I probably should have taken into consideration, when I was in a rush to finish this kit box. The only plus I have with this set up is the box and stand are not one. The box sits on the stand so it can be easily moved if needed. So I could still invest in some pressure treated wood and remedy the situation without tearing the whole thing apart. Thanks for the heads up!!!

Tray,
I have a suggestion. Don't paint that kitbox; stain it with something like Thompsons. It will be easier to maintain. You can take a brush and some stain and slather it up once a year and you can almost keep the box a lifetime. Paint don't last long in the weather and sun and it gets ugly quick. It is more difficult to paint and cover it well. Stain goes on without having to have any skill. ---------- Just My Take On Things

Nicksiders ,
I had been planning on staining my kit box. My wife bought 10 gallons of some Behr Premium $130/5gal stain a couple weeks ago for our decks. She has been "guard doggin" it though and it's off limits to my bird houses until the decks are stained lol.Hopefully I can finish the decks this weekend and get my kit box stained before the rain comes (in about three weeks).
