i have one bird that rolls fast and can roll deep. but he likes to challenge the forces of gravity. the last few times I have let him out he works his but off. Rolling once a minute and 30 feet. Then he comes in. As they make there final pass, only 10 feet up he has to roll one more time. And there I think this time it is going to hurt. But no. At the last second or maybe half a second he pulls out and lands. I think he likes to do. He pulled out once a fraction of a second late and landed on his feet but with a thump. Tonight he tried to roll into my arms like a punted football. He pulled out just above my head and went and landed.
He sure makes the fly fun.

Yeah they scare me all the time like that.what I do is stand in front of the kitbox and talk to them when they coming to land to try to keep from doing that when coming in to land. one accident and it could be over..

I can see that, he is one of three Cocks from My Scott Campbell and Billing Line. I don't want it to be over. i have almost stocked him, to make sure it doesn't end till I get some offspring. It sucks to just be starting.

When mine are landing they start wanting to roll and it scares the hell out of me. Sometimes i grab the net just to be safe.

RT I know what you mean but one thing I would like to advise you is have plenty of patience,I'm starting over again and I would not stock anything that does not meet my criteria.. I bought pedigree birds years ago and that delay my progress and wasted many years but now i have birds from competition guys who fly their birds not just peds. If i wasn't patient i would had mated these birds already and had a kit of my own.but no I'm waiting I'm studying they must be stable and in control for at least 2 yrs.I have one now thats 2 1/2yrs and he just turn into a roll down imagine if i would had stock him at 1 yr
I wouldn't have never notice that.so if you want to be around for a long time take it easy be patient and just learn and enjoy as you go along and one day you too will be proud and sitting in your favorite lounge chair outside smiling up at the sky..and it ain't cause you just looking up at heavens but angels with wings rolling down from the sky in perfect style...:)

RT, I HAD birds with the same issue. I say had because they never seemed to last long. They would eventually make a mistake and end up hitting the roof. I had one for several years and he never had an accident at my house. I got out of rollers and gave him to my friend and he only lasted two flys at my friends house before he hit the roof and killed himself.

Some toooo deep.....

I have several rolling pigeons in the 30ft-50ft range that do continue to roll when they come close to the landing platform (roof).

I just yell at them with words like:

"Hey... birdie watch out for the roof"!

....or

"Don't crash into the tree fool"!

he.....he.....he.....

But seriously though, my birds are pretty smart athlethes. They actually know how to put on the brakes and take it down a notch when things get out of control here @ Deep Spin Lofts.

Marcus, thats sounds familiar lol. I had a huge oak tree that my birds always seemed to break when they were over it my entire kit rolled into it one day, thank goodness the tornado blew it down lol.

Georgia ehh....

I overheard on XM Satellite Radio today that a 17 year old kid was climbing over a fence at Six Flags Park and was struck by a roller-coaster and it was curtains for him.

I think it was a Six Flags in Georgia.

It's so... so sad for him and his family.

Marcus, they just had that story on the news it was bad. The story said the kid lost his hat on the ride and went over a fence to get it and the rollercoaster hit him at 50 mph and decapitated his head, i feel for the family they were talking about how good a kid he was.

Not to change the subject back to the subject, but. i have been flying the whole bunch twice a day. I have been taking him out and only flying him every other day. He seems to be less scary. He still gets his roll on, but now pulls out a few feet above the box, instead of right on top of the box. When I pull him I stick him in with my breeders and he gets to eat like crazy, so maybe it was a feed thing.
I am just learning about these crazy birds.

Do your birds loose control if you over fly them?
This bird discussed above is an awesome (my opinion) bird if i rest him at least one day between flies. Other wise he scares me. I have seen him be in the roll for up to 3 seconds, and turn around and only roll 5 feet. He has the best velocity of any of the birds I currently have. He is also frequent going about once a minute. I am wondering if you can over fly a bird to a point where they loose control?
Thanks for your thoughts.

Good grief. What's with the debating? Stock him. He comes from a stable, even slightly stiff, family. You describe him as having a good work rate and good performance quality. Breed from him. He won't breed 100% or even 50% rolldowns. He may even take your family of rollers up to the next level. If you don't do it, you'll have regrets one day, when he makes a mistake. If you still can't make up your mind, I'll give you $100 for him.

You should get some very hot birds from the other lines too that you have. I have some from that red bar you have that are 150' rollers easy, every time. Talk about scary!
Just make sure they are flying over 150'

Thanks but I have decided to stock him one way or the other, I don't have enough birds not to yet. I wanted to know about whether you could over fly you birds? Just using him as an example. If you fly your older birds to much can they loose control or become stiff?
Thanks for humoring me.

Thanks

The red bar is a good hen. She is probably the most frequent bird in the lot. 2 to 3 times a minute. Surprised her young are that deep. She hasn't gone more than 15 feet.

Well it came from her or the ash redcheck cock I had her with. How does he do? The first 2 were recessive reds that are the 150' rollers but then second round they are dark ash redchecks and they are more what your talking maybe 20' sometimes but they are still very young yet.
They fly every morning for about 45 minutes to an hour and staying around a lot better. Very tight in kitting too. Just wish I could fly the 150' birds. Oh well they will be great fosters.
