where do you live at chai, which area. I might have to stop flying pigeons where I'm at. I'm new to the sport and if it is that bad with you it can probably be worst for me. It has happened to me one time and they cleaned my a** dry but not this time. Good luck when you get back. And if those birds that went off into the night were the ones that you cherished and specific birds that were taken, your best bet is that someone who knows you and those birds are the ones that five finger discounted you in your yard. So when you do come back you really can't point fingers of who did it but will have a general idea who took them. Make that list and start crossing out names buddy.

From what I hear and seen from others who have gotten their birds stolen like that...for examples you said they only stole the main rollers that were good...trust me most of the time it'll be some one who you know and knows you...and it'll hurt alot to actually find out who that thief was...cuz mine's were stolen once and ended up being some close friends or friend's friend. but anyways good luck with them. I actually went to their house and get the pigeons right in front of them...they didn't say nothing...

Hi Fireballer...
I'm saddened to hear about your loss. It's terrible that in 2008 people are still out and about in our society stealing other peoples domestic pigeons.
5 RULES:
1) Don't tell people where you live!
2) Don't tell people you have roller pigeons!
3) If you sell birds to someone you don't know.... then take the birds to them.
4) Don't be outside clapping at your birds!
5) If you have the yard-space, money and time to clean after it.... then buy yourself a guard dog. (Preferably a German Sheppard). Pit-Bulls are unpredictable, violent and can get out of their yard and maul someone. So are Rottweilers.
Dobermans are good if well-bred and trained.... but they too can be tempermental with their owners.
{P.S.} Are you still trying to contact Harry Ashcraft?

I have train and had pitbulls for more than 25 yrs and mines never show me to be unpredictable violent and never got out my yard and maul anyone. now i seen mix mud dog get out and do exactly that. its all on how the owner train his dog..

for some reasons, Im just afraid of pit bull or any mix of it...they look scary and all buff but i guess that's what you have to use to scare thiefs away...and its true how if depends on the owner of the dog train it...

Efren... yes indeed Boxers are very good. In fact they are probably a better breed than Dobermans. However, I seriously question a Boxers intelligence versus a Dobermans. Hmm....
In my opinion German Sheppards and Labrador Retrievers will be your most intelligent guard dogs.... now I could be wrong about that so don't quote me.

you guys are forgetting the rottweiler as a guard dog. eat a lot and thus, shit a lot. but i think they're tougher than the doberman. but, my older brother just a bought a solid black german shepherd and it looks freaken bad ass...!! so i'm looking for a solid black female now so i feel a little better about my birds.

Pit-Bulls are unpredictable, violent and can get out of their yard and maul someone.
Marcus I cant agree on this one with you .. our family has had Pits for years and they are loyal , playful, and low maintanance( short hair ) and love Kids.
I believe animals are born with a blank slate and the owners or keepers are the one who start adding to the slate.
A underfed negleted untrained Dog is a dangerous animal regardless of the breed,,,

George.... I am not going to argue with you about your sweet and adorable "Pit-Bulls".
...but
I will leave you with this excerpt I quoted from katyroller above.
"Any dog that will knowingly or can reasonably be expected to attack an intruder is a serious liability that the owner must be willing to accept."

My dogs are pets and are Family members thus they have to follow the same rules any Family member is held to .
If they are unruly or disobiedent then they will be looking for a new home ..
We did not get the dogs to protect anything .I believe a person should take care of thier property ..
it's really that simple...

George,
White boxers can be registered with AKC but they can not participate in any AKC show. My male is AKC Champion sired and my female has AKC champion bloodline. White boxers are somewhat common with show dogs.

Marcus you blame all pitbulls because what happen to that quarterback.. like I said I have them ..my whole family has them now... they are very affection loyal .I blame the owner when it comes to dogs...now have you ever had a pit? see I had all kinds and the best dog i had was a German Shepard.but when i got into pits I never got rob again..My kid went to visit my brother one time and she went under the table and his Shepard started mauling her i had to kick him off and put him to sleep the next day but i don't judge all Shepard for that incident you dig what I'm trying to say.. ---------- Ralph

Ralph, I can partially agree with both you and Marcus about the Pits. Pits have a reputation that is partially well deserved but yes, they can make outstanding dogs. The problem most Pit owners have is the fact that they should not be allowed to own a Pit or any dog for that matter. For some reason Pits and Rotts tend to attract the wrong type of people. Any responsible owner will spend the time to train, learn the personality of their animal and be able to identify warning signs. My neighbors Pomeranian has tried to attack me twice because the idiots can't keep the damn dog in the house or the yard. I'd love to beat the thing stupid but it's the owner that needs to be beat.

Kay thats exactly my point Pitbulls have a bad rep because of the owners I can show you pics with all my pitbulls and my daughter was 2 yrs old wrap around their neck riding them around like horses. Like you said learn the personality of your animal and be able to identify their warning signs.. I'm not saying they all are good but you can't knock them all because of the mistakes of others . I had one female oh she would never bite a human being there wasn't a human she didn't love .but I kept her because no one knew that ..because of their bad reputation.I had fun with that one..anyway back to rollers this isn't about pits its about our rollers.good talking to you Kay.. I use a Shiloh Shepherd and German Shepherd to warn me of trouble. One is stationed next to the loft and the other is allowed to patrol the property (knows the difference between friend and foe). Very intelligent and great around the grandchildren.

My experience with just about all the "security" breeds convinced me to have a G.Shepherd for my own family security system. Easy to train, loyal beyond belief and more predictable than most. Great all around companion but still not bomb proof.

Thanks for the heads up guys...Had a call from my mom again today and the thieves are coming back for 2nd...All i got left are just 2 pair of foster parents and one young that i was able to foster out from my foundation pair...But what much can that do...I careless about my foster parents...
Well since you guys mention about getting a guard dog...I dont really need a really big dog...My older sis has 2 mutt dog, one male and one female...I was thinking about using them as a alarm for thieves...The male dog will bark at any movement in the backyard when my sis brings them over...He's a agressive little mutt...LOL....Soo i was thinking about using them as patrol dogs if i was to get back to the hobby...
