Does feeding wheat to young rollers make them come to the roll early?Does the feed make them rolldown?

I don't think that it makes them roll down because i feed my young pure wheat and they roll good. I have only had 1 roll down.

IMO youngbirds for the first 6 months need a good mix of grains to develop bone and muscle and enough of it so they are still hungry to trap in next day after flying. As has been said many times on this forum"Don't jack with their feed till they are at least 6 months old."

I agree with kel .young birds need lots of protein for building and repairing muscle and you want to help build muscles on your little rollers so when they do start to roll they can put those muscles to use .

I agree, lots of protien for the young! I even have my 13 son drinking 2 extra protien drinks a day!

I think that we've strayed from Louis's original question!

I add wheat to the mix and I haven't had a rolldown yet! I use about 33% wheat to 67% mix!

I forget who posted it but I've going steady with 2 parts wheat, 1 part milo, 3/4 part austrian peas and 1/4 part safflour...its been keeping my youngsters fit with nice fly times and coming into the roll nicely.

Just wondering. Could you substitute Mung Peas for the Austrian and Flax seed for the Safflower? Tried feeding my young birds wheat and a little flax for just two days and they are now flying much shorter times than originally and my deep birds are barely rolling at all. I stopped that plan! I know it was probably due to the lack of protein.
