Tony is there a law regarding pigeon medication and tonics being exported from America to the UK. I remember you saying you dont supply out of the USA. If you would export I'm sure you would get good custom from the UK guys because you sell things we struggle to get over here.

Hey W@yne, I have spoken to my local post master and he has told me, I can ship meds, it's the receiving country that has the option of accepting them or confiscating them.

Since I could not offer a refund under such circumstances, the buyer is putting his money at risk. I have been advised by business associates to require payment by International Money Order payable in US dollars before I ship.

Really up to the individual who wants to risk the customs confiscating it. I have to list on the required form as to what the package contains and it is their choice to take it or not.

Wayne, I've just imported a couple of fans from the US. They're 12 volt jobbies which you can only get in the UK at extortionate prices, and they're made in the US, so I got them in myself much cheaper. The point is, it's touch and go whether Customs & Excise choose to intercept packages or not. If they do, they'll first want to see that it's legal (get the sniffer dogs out, lads), then if the gear is allowed in, they'll then check what rate of duty to slap on it, plus VAT. Then, if you're very unlucky, the Post Office will deliver the package to your door and charge you more still for the privelege.

The sender has to state on the package what's inside, together with the value. Some people circumvent this by stating "present" on the package, but that doesn't stop the authorities opening it up to take a look, should they want to (they're well aware of the various scams to import illegal goods and to evade duties and taxes.)

My fans were delivered to me without any intervention from Customs, so it shows sometimes they don't bother looking at what's coming through. So, in terms of your pigeon goodies, they may or may not intercept the package. If they do, they may need to check whether what's inside is legal or not. If you're talking about meds which we would normally have to get via prescription from a vet, then I think they'll confiscate them (assuming they can be arsed to check out what they are). However, if Customs don't think the meds are worth making a fuss about, they may still add duty and VAT to what you've paid in the US.

Ask yourself, Wayne, do you feel lucky?
