Have any of you ever fed your pigeons alfalfa pellets? I was on one of the racing pigeon forums and some say they feed these pellets to their birds as a supplement. I guess it would be just like giving them greens to eat. They say the pellets are high in iron and other good stuff. ----------

Ed, I will let you know! I was reading my newsletter from my parlor roller club, and a few guys are feeding rabbit pellets ( alfalfa pellets) mixed with their feed! They are very happy with the results and say now their birds go for them first when they put feed out! Another claim is that they are saying that their birds are consuming less feed, due to maybe something their getting now that they were missing in their diet before! Anyways, I was gonna set a seperate feeder with the rabbit pellets in the corner in my foster breeder pen and watch what takes place over the next few weeks!
Just curious because I have a small clover patch by my loft and if I turn my back for one minute, they dive in and start eating as fast as they can. Figure their needing more greens in their diet!

Hey Val,get a little bundle of spinach or curly lettuce and put a zip tie around the stems so you can hang them in the loft.Sprinkle a little salt on it and the birds will chow it down.I give it to mine once or twice a week and they go crazy over it. Nick

Ed B, I've used alfalfa pellets before, but have you seen them? they're for horses and huge!! way to big for pigeons. you gotta crush them with a hammer or something, but my birds did eat them! I just give them grass from my lawn mower now. probably the same and a lot cheaper!! just my opinion, Woody
