I would like to aquire some chickens and would like to know if there any health issues housing pigeons and chickens in the same building? Not together but only a wire divider.---------- Ron Borderline lofts

I read somewhere is not a good idea keeping them close together, can't recall why I think is the chicken poo.I use to have them right behind my birds but now I would keep them far away from my birds. better safe than sorry.. ---------- Ralph

I wouldnt keep them seperated just by wire. I have chickens around my birds but not in direct proximity with each other. I have had no ill effects. Chicken do carry cociddiosis and salmonella. If you needed to house them side by side I would reccomend a solid wall and not wire. I let mine free range and clean up under the lofts with no problems.

Besides the health concerns....chickens will attract rats quickly. Chickens eat like crazy spilling foods everywhere...they poop like crazy....and you will need to house the chickens in a coop with constant air circulations....by doing so...rats will smell them from miles...and when you have some neighborhood rats they will produce like crazy...make sure your pigeons are well locked up or else they will take out your squabs and adults as quickly as the BOP's. just my recent personal experience. ---------- FLO www.blacked-out-loft.webs.com SAKTOWN, KALI4NIA

bman......My loft is 21X18. I have an 8x8 section built inside where I keep 16 chickens and 1 rooster. They have been housed with the pigeons for the past 2yrs with NO probelms what so ever. I have a 4ft plywood wall and 2"x2" hard wire from their up to the ceiling. I've got good ventilation, so NO worries. ---------- Fly High and Roll On

I have about 12 million sparrows and inca doves that wait for a seed or kernel to hit the ground. They know what a feed can sounds like too. The mice dont stand a chance between the chickens and the wild birds. Feeding time at my place is like a scene from The Birds. ---------- V99 blue sky single beat in cadance performing now earth beckons the winged drawn breath is let quickly forth orchestral movement follows
