i dont know if i should be excited or impatient i should be excited because im expecting my fisrt squabs this season any day now but the eggs look a little small and i tried to hit with the flash light at night but cant really see much how can i tell if these eggs are fertile and if they are not wouldnt the bird have stop sitting on it by now

Give them up to 20 days to hatch. if u cant see anything with the flashlight then that means that they are not fertile.. if they are multicolored then they arent fertile either

In 3-5 days you can see the veins on the egg if is fertile in the day. You just put it were the sun hits it and you can see. If you see no veins then it's not fertile. I don't like grabing the eggs at night because you can spook the parents and they will not sit and the eggs will die.


Fertile you will see this in 3-5 days, just wait till 5.

Not Fertile you will see this. You migt see the yuk but you need to see the veins like how it's on top.

Jerry,

What I do is right down the day the pair laid the eggs after 5 days you check them to see if they are fertile. I check them after 18 days to see if they have hatch. You don't want to keep looking at the eggs it's not good. Some pairs will leave the eggs and wont take care of them. After 20 days the eggs are not good if they have not hatch.
