Here is an email I received regarding a petition going around by email to change the name of the NBRC "Fall Fly" to "NBRC National Championship Fly"
EMAIL:
"This is a petition to change the name of the NBRC Fall Fly to the NBRC National Championship Fly.
This idea has been suggested many times. At the urging of many I have undertaken this process. If you agree simply follow the direction below. If you have been notified by others or have already added your name, please disregard.
When I have the names and emails I will forward them to my Regional Director and to the NBRC President Jay Yandle.
Directions: Simply hit the reply button, add your name and send to myself. Hopefully we can gather a respectable number of names to present. I have already opened a folder to store same in until we have adequate numbers. Thanking you in advance.

...what is the reason to change the name? If you are going to push for something, why not:
Grand National Fly
Fall National Fly
Fall Nationals
Fall Fly National Championship
National Championship Fly
Fall Cup National
USA Cup
The Pensom Cup
How was the name you are pushing for selected? No one asked me to vote on an appropriate name change.
How do we know there is not a better descriptive name than the one selected. Not much of a vote if only one name is on the ballot.
Count me out for now...
I personally think a good name change is in order, but no one offered me any options and I enumerated a few names that I think might be better.
Can anyone help me understand why I should vote on something like a name change while at the same time I have not been given any name options if I support it?

Hi Tony...
I thought the NBRC Fly was an international event?
I know of 5 seperate nations that have flyers who participate in competitions.
1) U.K.
2) Holland
3) Austrailia
4) Canada
5) South Africa
....however
If this be a National event (USA only).... then I think the "Pensom Cup" sounds cool.

The NBRC Fall Fly is good enough for me, but if change is a must I would go with The NBRC Championship.

I don't like the over use of the word "national".
National Birmingham Roller Club National Championship is a little clumsy for me. That is what is being said when we say NBRC National Championship. This change proposal has been brought up in the past and the membership even voted on it. The NBRC Fall Fly recieved the larger number of votes.
The NBRC Fall Fly sounds good to me.

If the bordering countires are included in the fly formerly known as the Fall Fly,shouldn`t it be the North American Championship Fly?

There was an attemp to change the name last yr that was voted on by the EC of the NBRC. It was voted to keep the name the same. Some thought/think/know???? that this is the first step in getting the fly moved from the fall all together. Good idea or bad. Debatable. I say if it's not broke dont fix it. I like the name the way it is. Its been that way sence the start. My oppinion only. Kev

There are bigger and better issues to resolve with the NBRC than a name change. This is like a petition for what? I thought the Executive Committee of the NBRC voted on all changes etc., not the members. How are we to ensure that everyone that signs the petition is a member of the NBRC? Usually the fliers in the previous NBRC Fall Fly are the ones that get to vote if the membership is allowed to vote at all?

Any member can sign the petition. Only the flyers will get to vote. So if you want to vote, fly.

I dont have a dog in the hunt but am on Earls list where the petition came to life. It is a petition to the EC to allow the membership to vote on the change. Past that I cant help you.
