Are you going to single mate or breed open loft? Single mating takes up more space. Open loft allows more nest boxes. I use five by ten for my lofts because I can buy all ten foot lumber. This allows me to have twenty 12x12x12 nest boxes on the back wall in open loft breeding. This is for my tightly bred Oriental family. I keep eight pair in this loft. Six pair in single mating pens in the same size loft, 30x18x18 nest boxes.
I am in Florida so three sides of mine are wire and the floors are made of Trex decking. The wind keeps the floors relatively clean unless it rains a lot and then I just wash them out with the water hose. If you use a slat floor space the slats at 3/8 inch. Anything less will clog up with poop. I tried 1/4 inch and it takes more cleaning than 3/8.
