Hi Game, like Turkey Buzzard has said always prime before you Paint it will (seal) the Wood and help the Paint bond. Also some oil base Paints can be toxic...I would use a good Exterior Latex House Paint......MaYo

latex paint after the primer. Also if you get it on you it will wash off with water.
Oil based paint wont wash off of you, or your hair, or your cloths... Just my opinion.... ---------- Butch @ Sundance Roller Lofts

Use stain; it is easier to maintain; lasts longer. Save the paint for the house ---------- Just My Take On Things

The last pigeon I had that complained about the kind of paint I used on his house I got rid of. LOL. In all seriousness I agree with Nick on the stain. I didnt use it on mine but I will the next time. If you are going with paint I would recomend Latex. Much easier to clean much less costly. Plus it doesnt take a week to dry like some of the oil base paints I have used. Joe ---------- J.M.Urbon Lofts A Proven Family of Spinners http://www.freewebs.com/jmurbonlofts/

I paint houses for a living these days, and have been painting boats and other stuff since I was 15.For anything outside.I reccomend latex solid hide stain. It is just like paint but cheaper and stands up good.Navajo Red is nice but any colour with red in it is the colour that fades faster than others.Oil based paints suck. They DON'T last longer and are toxic when wet. ---------- Kel. Solid colour stains are more of a solid colour but semi transparent stains allow you to see the grain of the wood more.Stains started out as a bucket of oil mixed with a bucket of varnish then with all the chemical proccesses they have nowadays they developed all kinds of colours.water-bases or oil. With water based stains you don't have to mess with paint thinners to clean your tools and hands and the fumes when wet are not toxic.Using water based paints and stains I use my brushes, rollers and trays over and over again.Easy clean-up.I re-use tools after having used oil-based paints but they don't last as long and are a pain to clean up. ---------- Kel. Under normal conditions at this time of year with low humudity,3 to 4 hours between coats.Try not to paint in direct sunlight as it will dry too quickly.. ---------- Kel. Rum-30 Lofts

lol haha yea any ideas/suggestions on how to hold the flypen up??
Should I just go with 2 legs on the front that will sit on the ground?
or
Should I get something to stick out from the base of the loft to hold it up?

The Game.. here this is an idea of how you can hold it up!
You can't really see but I put angle supports attached to the bottom of the shed.. do you see? :)

p.s. do not ever use chicken wire.. I have stripped the chicken wire and put on 3/4 inch cubed wire..

If i decide to go with the way you guys mentioned... am I going to have to build a new frame for the flypen?
Or could I simply just have to legs coming out from the base directly attached to the bottom of the flypen with angle cuts?

Hi Game, Just an Idea, but if you dont want to build a permanent frame on the loft front, you might try hanging the flypen. Kinda like hanging a big picture on a wall. Use 2 large eye bolts on the cage, and 2 large hooks on the loft. It looks like the cage will be heavy enough to hang tight on the bottom, and if not, a simple gate latch would work to keep it tight to the loft at the bottom. That way its removeable if you want... Just an Idea... Oh ya, and the loft looks great! ---------- Butch @ Sundance Roller Lofts

Kel, Thanks for all the information you have posted. I have read your posts and pictures on loft construction, painting, training, and etc. and found them to very helpful and interesting. I also liked the older pictures of your gardens and little dogs.
