I know I should'nt ask this. I have heard Cross-Bred mentioned in a post. In a line a birds that one of these crosses was made. How long will they have to be bred to not be considered cross-breeds? Just curious.

I know in Germany when they crossbreed into their show oriental rollers for color they say it takes 5-7 years to get the birds back to the standard. Then they have a 3-5 year assessment period of the birds being shown before the color is excepted into the standard. That's just for color and has nothing to do with performance!!!Myself I wouldn't do it to a performance breed, like a flying oriental or a Birm. But whoever pays the feed bill makes the decisions. As long as they don't lie about it,nobody gets hurt, you can just choose not to use their stock in your breeding program.

I cant for the life of it figure out why you would post this thread. With all of the other threads that have been hashed out on this subject that only conclusion I can come up with is to bring out another argument. Joe

Seven generations is considered genetically pure. That is 1/128 of whatever the cross is. Ten years to introduce a color and bring it back to proper roll.

Sheez, I have a hard time breeding good birds with the whole package without a mutt cross , and now we have some that think that you can do the ultimate down breed and have them the same in ten years or less, good luck.

Sippi, let me stab at this another way, in ten years you probably could get a bird that rolls properly, and it may even have the mental fortitude to handle the roll, but it would be a genetic cess pool that would probably hit all over the board and that a line couldn't be established out of unless you paid no attention to color and kept breeding it back to a first class Birmingham, but then you would probably back to square one.

Not something I would even attempt. Just the man asked a legit question and I gave him a legit answer. I dont reccomend it to anyone that doesnt have the knowledge, time and patience but it can be done.

Who has done it? There are several colors that were added by someone. Andalusion is one that comes to mind. Indigo is another. My "cesspool" has lots of factors in them. I havent a clue as to what all they are. Aint going to debate it with you tonight either. We will just have to agree to disagree.

I have five families of Orientals, one Fireball family, Galati's, Parlor rollers, and Turner Birms. All are only as pure as the last man that had them kept them. I maintain them pure here at my place. Do I have a pure Birm family, no I dont. I have had but happen to like the Carolina birds speed and frequency.

How long have you had the Turners ? BTW not all Carolina birds are crossed, what was used to try and put the crosses back together?

I have had them since 06. Pensoms were used to put the roll back. I will be seeing James in a month or so and will talk at length about some of his birds.

Mine are pure Turners. When I see James I am going to try to bring back some 007 birds. I lost my best pair to a freak accident today.

What has impressed me the most with these birds is the work rate. They will break 40 times in twenty minutes on any given day sometimes more. Now if I can get a whole kit of twenty and thirty footers I will be ready.
