Hey Guys just so you know a new law took affect in May 1 2008 that requires all Birds shippied into california must be Inspected by a veterinarian and must have a certificate shipped along with th Birds.

Just a heads up so no one will get in any kind of hassles.

George that is good information. I read the proposal on the Food and Agriculture's website and it sounds to me like it is still in the proposal stage at this point. However unless they word it differently pigeons are not considered poultry. They would have to directly state pigeons and doves in this proposal. JMHO Joe

I've had friends that have had gamebirds and waterfowl shipped and needed health certificates on the birds,it was only like $25 more to get the certificate. With todays gas prices it costs about that much to drive across town and back never mind a long trip to pick up birds.

Gabe
the post office has probably not been briefed of the new law .

I suggest everyone that is getting Birds from out of state to get them now .. it could save you a few dollers...

article 13.Interstate movement of poultry
section 821 definitions
(a) as used in this article
(1)"animal" means poultry
(2) "department" means department of Food and Agriculture
(3) "poultry" means all Chickens ,Turkeys, turkins,Pheasants, Peafowl, guinea fowl, ducks, geese swans, Gallinules, Doves, Pigeons, grouse, partridges, francolin, tinamou, ostrich

Hmmm.... I see you put down francolin and tinamou.

....but George

What about emu?

Hey George, I haven't done any research on this yet, but I know I would adjust the pricing of birds to California so that my buyers would not have to pay more.

I also already have a local veterinarian that has done some certifications for me already. I think what it will do for me and my customers is add a few days before I can ship them because I will have to make an appointment to have them checked.

I will speak with my local Post Master and see what he can tell me about this. Good post George!
