Why would you want to raise a family that has to be fed a minimal amount of feed just to get optimum roll out of them?
Why not breed birds that roll well fed and need only rest and conditioning to peak thier performance?

Sip, all families have to me managed and fed for their optimun, they are like an athlete where condition is critical which evolves around diet and fly. ---------- Just my Opinion Scott

I agree. My previous family did not perform to thier best unless fed extremely tight. I did not like that as you couldnt keep them that way very long. If I fed them like my present family they flew like homers. I much prefer to feed what the birds will eat in five minutes or so than have them climbing the wire. My present family will roll even if over fed, which I dont do either. But I release them by hand a lot and feel them to see where they are at physically. They will leave feed in the pan if over fed. My other family would eat till they busted. My current family I can feed without having to break them down. I just peak them when I want to see thier best performance and rest them a few days.

Yes Scott, it's just like an athlete. BR are just like that. You have to manage them well and feed them what they need to perform the roll that you want. If you feed them too much, they can become fat. I don't believe their is a family of birds that you can just feed them and they will perform well. They need to be manage.
Just my thought. ---------- W.Cha

I have Turners now. I feed a mix 66% wheat, 16.5% milo, 16.5% pig grower pellets. I adjust the wheat up and down according to how they are flying. I feed about 1 cup per twenty two birds. I adjust the amount only to control how fast they trap. I fly six to eight kits a day and want them to trap in five minutes or less.

Sip, once my birds are mature they are more fickle, you ask why ? for one they can be manipulated easier rather than just hope they feel like it. Also such birds are going to be more stable,"good" stable birds last year after year after year and are not controled by the roll which means solid breaks, not just birds rolling and fighting it, I have had hot families before, never again. Why again do you hand toss them ? ---------- Just my Opinion Scott

Sometimes I have more than one kit in my two box mobile loft. I step inside and toss out the birds I want out together. It makes them tamer and they dont bolt when I open the door. I hate for them to bolt out like wild animals when I want to scrape the floor or pick up the feed pan or just want to step in and handle certain birds.
Nothing to do with heat or bouncers. When I just have one kit I will step in and then open the door and let them out. I only peak mine when someone is coming to visit. And this year to compete. I also experiment with different feeding regimens during the year just to see for myself what the results are.

Sippi.....How do you get your measurements?? I mean how do you get the 66%, 16.5%, 16.5%? Could you please explain how to do this. Iam confussed on exactly how to come up with the measurements and what to use to get them.
And how do you get your birds to maintain on 1 cup per 20 birds?? ---------- Fly High and Roll On Paul
