Any suggestions or ideas for a kit of birds that start out rolling for the 1st 10 minutes, then go totally flat and just fly in circles?

All cock-bird kit are now flying every 3rd day. They are approx 1 year old. Feeding a 40/60 mix of red wheat and milo. Hot here and they are moulting also.

thats your answer they are moulting .they not control by the roll ,they controlling the roll. Is a good way and time to see your birds controlling them self holding back maybe thats the reason.. rest them birds more because they can easily roll down on you by accident because of the moult.help them get through the moult plenty of oil seeds safflower..rest good mix..---------- Ralph

For sure, they will get good food, rest. This kit doesn't seem to have a "lead" bird to trigger them to roll. Maybe they just more time...a year old is still kind of young.

Good question Sal ..they should be rolling already within the year than again depends on what family you flying.some start late some start early. ---------- Ralph

If you expect the birds to perform from the minute you open the kitbox to the time they trap, then you’re kidding yourself. Why do you think people prep their kits for a fly if their birds perform all the times in the air!
If you stop flying your birds every day and regulate their feed they might perform for 30 min for you nicely. Good luck with them.

I think Rich Hayes' kit did. I was not there, but I was at Aubrey Thibodeaux and they came out spinning and then did it more than 36 times in 20 minutes.
I got my eyes opened at the Thibodeaux place. I think you can get 40 scorable breaks in 20 minutes with them pretty constant throughout the 20 minutes. I have changed the way that I look at things in the roller world after seeing what Thibodeax put up.
It is a combination of stock and management. ---------- Just My Take On Things

Sounds like you're going too heavy on the milo.Try 90/10 wheat/milo after the moult. ---------- Kel. Rum-30 Lofts

to: J-Star....this kit is only flying twice a week, 3 times at the most.
twice a week this kit gets an 18% mix with all of the "good stuff" safflower, peas, etc they have been flying together since they were 6 weeks old. they do roll a lot in the 1st half of the fly time, however, they are short and fast rollers. a real tight kit. then they just go flat and fly circles until landing. i'm not unhappy with this kit or the way they perform at all. just curious about what makes them go flat like that.

Nice to know more details…it helps. Cut down on the 18% feed and substitute Wheat and Milo. Give more Milo, if you wish, to slow their wing beat down to set up for breaks. After a while when you notice their performance deteriorate such as their spin speed then give them 18% for couple of days and start over again. You will see a tremendous change in their performance. Give it a try.

Too much rich mix IMO.Once every 3rd fly is all my mature kitbirds get a rich mix, other than when they are moulting. ---------- Kel. Rum-30 Lofts

Until those birds finish moulting don't expect anything out of them..remember they are in pain too..wait until after the moult and then get into a program..but help them get through that moult --- ---------- Ralph
