just a quetion do you cross breed? with all do respect i feel and belive that bird people like us get tempted (the ones that have other breeds) to cross breed? i belive we get curious to see watt hapens wen you cross breed ... i think if i had another breed i would cross just to see if the roll changes i guess just to study the mix... but then i would have to bar b Q the mutts cuz i cudnt let them mess up the BR!! to me its like saying i own some porn movies but i never seen them come on!!!! i have nothing against any other pigeon breeds or breeders... but i have that feeling that 1 out of every 3 or 4 pigeon breeders that have orientals and other BR look alikes mix and match them just out of curiosity...

Will do Ralph.
Rollingline,
Not a chance.I don't even want to mix different families of the same breed. My BRs that are Neible/Barrett crossed have the most issues and I'll probably stop breeding them next year. They are real deep but I get more rolldowns and early landers and non kitters out of that cross.Unless you know lots about genetics,I think it is kind of ignorant to start cross breeding and even then you better have a lot of time on your hands to study the offspring and refine whatever it is you've set out to accomplish in the first place.I'm about as smart as a stick when it comes to genetics and am just starting to understand the names of the multitude of colours pigeons come in.

I haven't been researching ORs for long, but the only time I've heard of guys crossing their ORs is the Show(4 letter word)breeders and Dale Husband has admitted to crossing the BR into one of his lines to get his whites many years ago.

Santandercol.....NICE looking FOR. What family are they from. I've got some of the Husbands, all buffs & tuffs. I do like those blacks. Good luck with them.

J_Star... As for the cross breeding. All the fanciers that I know DON'T cross their FOR with anything but FOR.. Just to set the record straight.

And for those that don't know anythihg about the FOR colors. The yellow color is called buff or cinnamon.

Paul,
These birds are way back Teddy Hull birds but they've been through John Skistimas'loft since then and who knows what I've got here as he has alot of showbirds but is said to have always had a kit of flyers.Got some birds coming from Cali next month from proven performers but had to prove these ones here as well so see what we have by next year.

Jstar,LOL!!! Believe me,you don't need to cross to BRs to get real deep ORs.Alot of the BS that goes around about ORs is because guys get sold show birds as fliers. They put them up,birds don't do crap,so the guy says all ORs are junk.

Yeah I have kept silent until the cross thing was brought up. I dont know any flyer that crosses OR's with Birms. The only crosses I know of were for color. I did it one time just for kicks and got garbage. Not as good as either family. The OR performs differently than Birms. Apples and Oranges. Both breeds can stand on thier own merits.

Kel I would fly them first and then breed the good ones.

Ya figure eh sip?Yeah,it will be more work allright to breed the 3 pair I have now than say if there are only 2 birds out of the six that are mine to keep out the 12.I'm kind of leary about flying a bird I paid $50 plus shipping to get with these damn henery out back here.I thought I was gone clear till mid sept when they let me have clear skies from June 7th till July 24th but then when the hen bitch took a donek one night then a roller next night I been locked down 6 days now.I'm awful tempted tho with Bob Rapp sending me several birds next month I'll still have a card or 2 up my sleeve even if I do lose some of these ones.I guess it's still"Breed best to best"tho and the best in my books are the ones that perform AND dodge the Henery and Mr Coop.Yer probably right with your suggestion.I better start trap training 'em,eh.

Hey Ralph,
They are making a few loops around the yard but just low flying so far. They have homed in pretty quick.Been putting them out on top of the kitbox then putting the BRs up to encourage them to fly but everytime I put the BRs up lately the SOB henery show up and hell breaks loose. There has been an Osprey fishing down on the beach in front of our place the last few evenings but he doesn't bother my birds. Not much time left to get these birds happening as by mid sept we'll be shutdown probably. At least I haven't lost any birds for quite sometime, the BRs I have left are pretty BOP wise and the Donek too but hard to get any kind of decent performance when they are being harrassed allatime.

Ralph,
The peris attacked once but not a sustained one.The 2 birds he went at just sort of dodged him and flew on.The BOP have been only halfheartedly checking things out lately and haven't lost any birds for awhile.Been flying these ones steady and getting some deep tailrides but no spins yet.Last month got 6(2 breeders and 4 YBs) of the real deal from California but they are staying in the breeder loft for now and I'll fly their young. They are sweet lookin birds man, smaller than the ones I have pics on here and man are they fast and slippery in the loft to get away from me.Once I have them in my hand they are cool and calm.Gotta get some pics of them up here.

ok ok but yes sorry i'm slack about downloading and all that stuff to post em.With four different breeds to fly it keeps me hopping around the yard till dark.Time to lockdown the BRs tho.Friggin falcons.I put the hommers up they come in no attacks, the Doneks go and come back safe and happy, then the Orientals still no attacks then as soon as them BRs get to 300-400ft the damn Henery show up and the chase is on.For some reason they only want to go after the BRs.
As far as how deep they will roll don't know yet these ones I have flying are still only doing tailrides,40-60ft ones tho and the odd twizzle.I have read from the other guys on the FORS forum they will do all kinds of different manouvers, dives, spins(yes deep ones),twizszels to name a few tricks.Pics are on the camera.stay tuned!

rollingline, how could you think such blasphemy!!!!?????Not a chance. My Neible BRs stay pure in this house. It would be absolute sacriledge to allow anything else.I have 1, 1/2 Barrett 1/2 Neible bird I've been breeding last couple years and her young have finally told me to turn her into a foster bird. They don't want anymore --ckup bros and sis's.No,,I won't be crossing any of these ORs to BRs or vice versa so don't sweat it dude!!By the way,my ORs don't look anything like the BRs at all.Guess I better get my A into G and put up some more pics,eh!
