My July hatch birds were locked down in mid sept last year and now most are spinning to some degree. ---------- Kel. Rum-30 Lofts

pHIL, if the birds were good before you locked them up and are bred from quality stock they will be good when you put them back out. Fly them until the bop becomes a problem.

Phil, I agree with Keith and I will add I have locked birds down that were not in the roll and when flown the following season started rolling and were just fine. ---------- Sal Ortiz

thanks for the response guys, the reason im asking is that im still breeding and some of these birds that ill be pulling in sept. or oct. will not be coming in the roll when i lock em up in oct. nov. so justed wanted to see if it mattered or not? ---------- Fil Olazabal

I think what Keith said holds very true. If they are bred out of good stock, if doesn't matter what stage of the roll they are in before you shut them down. I think what is most important is that they are kitting right before you lock them up. I like to have, at the least four weeks of good solid fly time under them, when they are flying 45 min. Six to eight weeks would be better. All this being said, not everyone will come back in proper form. Some will roll down, bump, or be out birds when you start flying them again.

I was just wondering about this, as lock up is just around the corner for some of my birds fully into the roll. while some others I will take a chance and fly them out as long as possible. Good question fil and great answers everyone! ---------- Gary
