Not sure if Im right but for my birds right now...some are molting into their new feathers...they lose feather's almost everywhere that they want new feathers. the back of their neck, head, underwings, like you said near the beak too.

I'm betting that their just starting their molt! Mine are starting too! They will loose their old feathers and get their new ones! Happens in the late summer here! Don't be supprised if you see a change in their flying and rolling habits! They say its somewhat painful for them, don't know. Never gone thru it. My hair fell out and I didn't feel a thing, and the worst part is, I didn't get any new to replace it. Whats up with that?

Val, that’s why they invented wigs I guess (lol).

The only time you need to worry is when rollers lose feathers in the back of the neck and some are broken at the shaft leaving a bold spot during times when birds are not in the molt. That means the birds have some kind of parasite that need to be taken care of. It would start with one bird and if you don’t take of the problem, it will spread to others.

Permectrin II or Ivomec are the best to use.
