Hi Guys,
I am new to the forum, I am a Veterinary Science student at the university of Queensland in Australia.
I have an assignment to do relating to muscular form and function. Now, being a bird lover with a background in Budgies and big parrots, naturally I wanted to do something to do with birds. So, I have chosen to do Birmingham Roller pigeons.
What I thought I'd do to start my research off is to get straight in touch with the experts!
Basically what I need is to identify the muscles, bones and nerves that the pigeon uses when it performs its roll. Now I understand that a lot of the information will probably have to be worked out from bird anatomy books BUT I thought maybe you guys could provide me with some information, links or wisdom that will help me to get a handle on the actual actions performed, the order in which the pigeon does its actions to do the roll etc.
Basically I am after information or any papers or books that you think will help with the assignment.
Of course I will be most grateful for any information and will reference your help in the presentation if desired!
So yeah guys, any help would be awesome! Let the wisdom flow :D

Hello Hamish, I have a medical report in my files that I purchased from a medical publication service that you might find interesting. Talks about muscle and the fibers involved in the roll.
I will scan it tomorrow and email it to you. Let me know if you are interested in it. ---------- FLY ON! Tony Chavarria

Welcome Hamish! There is lots of knowledge floating around on this site for sure and I think you'll find some of what you're looking for right here, tho most of us are just hard core pigeon lovers and don't get nearly as deep into anatomy and such as you have undertaken to do.Good on ya mate, and dive in. ---------- Kel.
