Hey you guys probably have seen my dove post.. I'm wondering, will the feathers grow back? The first layer of skin is just completely ripped off.. Will feathers grow back out of the second layer?

Andrew as long as they didnt remove the skin the feathers will grow back. If it is gone through to the muscle or bone on the head feathers wont come back.

It found its way to (near) an Indian Fantail nest and the Male just brutally beat him like this.. He found his way out of the dove pen.. I now hate the Fantail! >:-(

Put neosporin or mycatricin, or even vasaline to keep it moist. He will definitely be bald headed but looks like the rest will grow back okay.

From what I seen, my chickens that were brutally beat up like the dove you got there...the skin of the bird will usually heal back within a period of time. Unfortunately, the skin heals completely but the hair cells just never grow again on that certain part skin that was torn off. Im thinking maybe the shoulder down will grow back but then the neck up to it's back skull is very bad. Also you can tell that the shoulder down still has its little top layer skin. After my chicken heal, the skin was bald and it's just like a little skin birth mark on it. This is just what I experienced before but good luck though with the dove. Try putting some medicine on it...I forgot which kind but it'll help. Better than not trying.

Trev, I have a lone hen dove that was giving it up to a male with a mate and ooops. Nothing to get mad about, it is still a bird and a pretty one at that.
Love the bird Trev....
