This BOP thing is absolutely ridiculous, I just got inside.. I was standing by my bird house flight pen.. and just out of nowhere a damn cooper just comes smashing into the screen and my birds went ballistic.. Then he is staring right at me right in the eyes for a good 5 seconds.. This is getting just pathetic! They are a threat to all pets..

Happen to me a couple of times. But it's NATURE. We can't do anything about it. No matter how much you hate it, it has to be that way.

And that is what is so ridiculous.. it doesn't make any sense.. I have friends who have had dogs, kittens, and various other pets being carried away by BOP's..

I was watching these videos on youtube where in some country they use these BOP's to hunt what looked like foxs, rams and other decent size animals. It was pretty nuts.

I came out to my back yard the other morning and found that I had strayed in a BOP (Cooper). I walked right up on it and it didnt budge. It was just sitting on top of my kit box looking at me like I was the crazy one. All my young birds were out and werent even afraid of it. They just looked at it and contunued on about there business. I just grabbed my flagged and scared it off. I still locked my birds down just in case. I should have recorded it and posted here.

I'm just starting off I have 5 young birds I just purchased about 5 days ago. I have two nice sizes kit cages attached to the main loft which gives them great visual of their surroundings. I started training this the first day by whistling every time I feed them which is twice a day. Now when I whisle they fly straight ti to floor of the loft I guess they know it's feeding time. How much longer should i keep them in the loft until I open the door and let them fly out hungry ??

I had my first attack of the summer yesterday. Luckily, I seen him as he came out of a tree and started yelling and waving. The neighbor across the road probably thought I was going nuts, but it worked. he turned away from the kit and I didnt see him again...yet

can anyone give me a time frame on how long I keep my birds caged before i let them out. had them for 5 days now only have 5 thus far they are young 60 to 70 days old. Someone told me it's ok to starve them then open the door and toss some food outside of the door. let them fly out and toss food back in the cage and they should go back in. Do this for a couple of day and they should be homed. They are already aware of feeding time when I whisle they all fly to the floor of the loft to eat.

I would keep them in for at least two weeks, dont feed them the day before you let them out.And when you let them out dont flush them up let them get used to there surroundings and traping. And when you have a question start a thread, your response will be better.

Here is a story of Revenge...yesterday day a coopers went after my mini pincher(dog).....as it ran into the loft...the cooper hit the corner of the loft door and knocked itself silly.....guess what....that mini pincher tore the cooper to shreads......I saw it happen from inside the house...and before I got out to the loft...my mini pincher had ripped its head off and was tearing it apart. So I took a video of the dog with it so that I would not get arrested for a mangled carcass...and then called a sheriff friend of my and told him the story so my ass would be covered. anyway...nature works one way and then it works another.

Had my first attack this evening also! Haven't seen one in over 3 months! Didn't loose a bird, but I was flying later than usual cause of the heat and dang near lost my B kit. Had to land and trap them with flashlights!Scary to see them sky out so close to dark! Locked down for a few days!

Yes Sal, I saw two flying at a really high altitude heading South this morning! I didn't recognize what they werebut they looked quite aerodynamic, almost like a type of falcon. If I'm not mistaken, the weather is supposed to cool off some this weekend, guess their calling it a cool front, gonna dip way down into the 90s(LOL)! Usually doesn't happen till mid Sep. around here! Hope its not triggering an early migration!

I got hit this week also along with several others I know.
I have a little different take on it. This years young are fledged and hunting on there own.Being beginners the don't weigh effort against results so will try to tackle anything they see. Kind of like the little weasel on fog horn leghorn cartoon. That's why a large percentage of the hits are unsuccesfull this time of year they are still learning. Give them a couple of months practice and look out.

I Hope they leave Canada though soon.. (Not to the states though lol) because I want to start flying my birds.. I just saw a peregrine 2 days ago just north of me which is scary.. And I see 2 sharp-shinned hawks about 5-10 times day just cruising over my house.. (I assume its the same 2 birds) I would not dare fly my birds right now. And of course I see several red tails (which can't really do anything) and 1 coopers sitting by my loft.

Ron, Got hit yesterday too! Old moulting cooper bitch that was around in the early spring. She's back early and I have a half kit yet to train. Had timed my breeding to get all strong on the wing before she returned, now I'll have to breed earlier next year. I think were all in for a rough winter-lock down or not! otis
