Find a Lowes or Menards, Home Depot,etc... Talk to a manager if possible. They always have what they call "cull" lumber. They`ll make really good deals just to get shed of it. Also, watch the building sites. Contractors throw away a lot of good useable stuff. Just be sure to ask if possible. Also some factories throw out skids of good size. These are great for 2x4s. And many of the top boards are yellow pine. Good stuff. With a little creativity and some patience, you can get most of what you need almost free. It`s amaizing what some people throw away. The windows in my loft are thermo pane 48x36.FREE, from a remodel job. The floor for my loft, 10ft x 20ft.All 2x10 on 16" centers, with plywood on top.FREE, from a printing company that got it as a skid, shipped from Germany to hold a new press. Almost all my 2x4s came from skid lumber. FREE, I had to tear them down and clean nails. You get the picture... Just be patient if you can. I built my loft, 10ft x 20ft, for about $300 bucks. Granted, I have put more in over time, like cage wire, electrical, latchs, hinges, paint, etc... but thats about as cheap as I can get it.

Hello loft builders. go behind all of the home depots ,they have a trash bend in which they throoooow away good useable lumber and large pieces of plywood . And it is freeee. that is how i saved alot off cash. also if you want to put in a nice lawn near your loft they give away sod if it did not sell and they give away open bags of cement mix. get the idea ,plan and get these items in advances and you can have a loft for almost free.Good luck JT SMASH

We used scrap Hardiplank in the kit boxes (1 x 4 for 'roosts') and converted an ugly old storage building into a pigeon/chicken house.
Great tips about the scrap lumber at Home Depot, Lowe's, etc.!
