If they are in a kit cage full of sun light in around 3-4 months or sooner some times. You don't want that because they will just want to mate and not fly or perform. They will land early and if the hen lands the cock will land too. You will have problems and then the whole kit will do the same. You might have a hen with a egg and rolling and she might hit and there's the end for that hen. It takes one cock to start to want to mess with the hens and then that's it. I remouve those cock as soons as I see them doing it.

I have got them start breeding at about six months or when you notice they are interested.

having a cock and hen kit would minimize these problems....

If a bird is that young, it probably has`nt proved itself yet in the air. Why are you thinking about breeding a bird so young.? just curious.

I agree with Butch,,I have birds here 10-Month now and i still haven't bred them until I'm sure they will be stable maybe a year and a half i will mate them.but patience is the key.
----------I always remember these words Pensom always said the youngster will be only as young as its mother.something like that.I have a bird here that is an 06 I still haven't bred it because I have seen some bad traits in it that I personally don't want to see repeating itself in the breeding pen.so it remains a kit birds.

not intending to breed the young ones at all. I'm just starting out and all my birds= 17 are under 90 days old with the exception of a mated pair which are about a year and a half. Just wondering should i keep the hens seperated from the males to keep them from mating until I can see how they fly and coordinate the mating?

if they`re in a kitbox with a wire floor, they probably wont be any hanky panky going on. I dont think they`ll try any way for anouther 3 or 4 months. 90 days is nothing to worry about.

thanks Sundance by the way my nick name is Butch as well. I have had the young ones now for a week been feeding them twice a day moving them in a aviery daily and letting them trap back into the kit loft. They seem to be doing that very well they are aware of feeding time when I whisle. Do you think it would be wise to let a few of them out the aviery which have traps back in as well as traps to the kit cage?? want to start training and seeing if they are aware of home??

At 60 days they should be out flying...get them out if you have then train to your call and make sure they are on a empty stomach once you have them out, remember patience is the key ..feel them out.
