I've heard that flags are sometimes used to call birds back into the kit cages? i've heard that they are used in a way to train rollers? i'm just curious and interested to know.

The flag is use to scared the birds out of their cage and fly in the air for a while. Some birds don't like to fly and they would just hang around the roof doing nothing. The flag sort of scared them I guess. I don't use a flag to make my birds fly. I open my kit and there they go.
Whistling and food crackling in a bottle is two way for calling birds back. But for most part, whistling works the best for most breeders. That's what I experience in most breeders.

You can train them to come down to a flag but it takes a lot of work and you cant flag them up if you want to flag them down.

i use it to scare the birds out of the cage even though i don't really need it there is always that one pigeon....i whistle to call them in....

You can train a bird to do what ever you want .you are the Master but like Sippi said don't confuse the birds.

Tou, I do not use any of that stuff, it is all on how you train them I do not like to scare my birds when it is time to fly out of the kit box, they fly out with no hesitation on their own.

I have some kits that I have to use a flag and some that all I do is open the door and they are OUT and UP

The only time i use a flag is when training the youngsters and never after that they love to fly ..and to keep them up if they are not flying the time i want to put into them. lets say i want them to fly 20 mins they give me 15 i use it.now that is for birds that are well train and would never bank anywhere.tools are use for various reason like feed is use as a tool too.
