How often are you supposed to clean a Rollers Loft?? Iv read in the NBRC magazine once to twice a year because they need a special bacteria build up??
Then others have told me whenever it gets dirty...
Whats the truth??

Just a dust mask, u don't want to breath in that much pigeon dust you can get a respitory problem called pigeon lung.

I learned from racing homer guys when I was a kid.,clean =healthy birds,so like them I clean the loft every day. I have it set up with expanded metal floors and 2X4 perches and only a few v perches,so scraping only takes a few minutes a day.Once a month in the summer I really clean it out good with disinfectant. My wife said I keep the loft cleaner than our house,my answer was "Yeh,but I don't $hit all over the floor and furniture either" Nick

I have tried everything!Right now I use an absorbant litter, about 3/4" inch thick.Feathers and droppings can be lightly broomed off the top.I make sure to do a complete changeout after two months. In front of my loft doors I have 3x5 cementuous boards, like durorock,so if litter is tracked out it can quickly be swept up....Aloha,Todd

I use Drystall for the floor dressing, I clean about once a month, I also been using a shop-vac for the final touches...this works really well... however you still need to use a dust mask... and if you use a shop-vac it is recommended to use a dry-wall bag over the filter... good luck....

I`ve tried wood shavings, wood horse stall pellets, sand, and now am using ground corn cob. The corn cob is cheap and so far I like it best. The wood stall pellets were ok too, but they break down into wood dust. I can get them all at the local Tractor Supply Company. TSC. Most feed stores can help you out. Try a few options and see what you like best. ---------- Butch @ Sundance Roller Lofts

Well the bottom of my loft is hard ply wood. What can I put ontop of the plywood?? When I used to have 10X8 loft and had solid floor I used saw dust (wood shavings) It makes your loft smell fresh and clean it"s good when you spent alot of time in loft screwing around with the birds, and used to replace it every four to six weeks ---------- Roll it

Kel, I tried the vinegar today and it worked great! Thank you for the tip! I used white but I thought that apple cider might be better. Which do you use?

Thom, The ACV is expensive to splash around the loft so just use the clear stuff. It is good for windows too and many other cleaning uses around the home/boat.Cuts the salt on the boat windows like magic. ---------- Kel. Rum-30 Lofts
