Anyone in the room I need your help!!! I think this subject can never be discussed too much.
I have a problem, my birds are flying too fast now. I got them to the point where they are high enough.
But,now they are flying too fast.
I have them on 2/3 wheat, 1/3 milo and 1/8 safflower and 1/8 sunflower. 15 birds.
Any suggestions.
Oh, I forgot to mention they are just starting to come into the roll.

sounds like you might need to change your mix if you havent already.
I use wheat/milo. 50/50. If I give safflower to mine they do the same thing but also sky out. I havent tried the sunflower.I would guess its about the same as safflower...

My young kits seem to all fly fast. After they are older they slow down. Just what Iv'e seen in my Kits.Changing the feeds don't seem to matter much. Just time!

For me, the best single feed to slow my birds down is barley. Fed at 25% of ration for 2-4 days, my birds slow down considerably. However, it also lowers the height they fly. Ironically, peas initially cause a slow down in my teams, but if fed continuously for longer than a week or so, the effect is lost. I also believe milo, fed over long term, can slow down a fast team, milo may also cause your team to lift more. Be cautious about creating overfly conditions. Safflower ... I am still experimenting, it does seem to increase activity in my teams ... but unsure of any other effects.

I suggest; cut the sunflower out, increase the porportion of milo in your ration to say 50/50 for a while. Try adding barley for a couple days. I wouuld also suggest if they are just developing in the roll, dont whip on them very much. They sometimes just need to be pigeons. The faster flight might help them to adjust to the impulse of rolling, give them some time to get things together.

Weather plays a big role in my birds flight speed. I have alot of wind where I live. If im not careful during the training of my young teams they learn fast flying habits to cope with wind. Once good habits are established, wind has less effect on causing bad habits like fast flight.

Thanks everyone....As for the sunflower seed, I put that in to help with their moult. Plus,my kit consists 5 Fireballs, 5 Ruby's and 5 B/hams. Not sure if I should fly them separately. Any opinions??

wishiwon2... I've been just flying them every other day for about 2 weeks now. I didn't want them TOO strong on the wing with this flying too fast issue going on.

Windjammer, I would fly them every day if they are young you should not have any problems...Keep them on the mix 50/50 wheat and milo you should be good to go.

Thanks Sal... I put them on a straight 50/50 and fly them everyday for awhile and see how this works out.
