This latch is made of an old (recycled now) horse shoe and the ring comes from an old dilapidated halter. (Well, the first latch used an old beat-up halter, and then the next ones came off of good halters. AHEM!!!)

Hey, Tim -- not sure about going to the convention yet. I ought to since it's being held so close to me (relatively speaking), but I think that's the week I'm supposed to be in Connecticut.
