One of the things I really like about flying rollers is the fellowship and frendships that I have made over the years. I just got home from my oldest sons wedding in Longmont CO. When I found out where it was going to take place I looked up in the NBRC directory and saw that Elmer Walker lived there. I called Elmer up and ask If I could come by when I got to Longmont. Yes. I go to Elmers house Sunday morn. Elmer is the kind of guy you meet and you know you know him from somewhere else but cant remember where. He has a nice kit cage setup that I am going to use on my own cages. Elmer put up a kit of young cocks that are going thru the molt, but still showed some quality before going up too high to see. Elmer then showed me his breeding hens and cocks. I must say he has some nice birds. The cocks were still pretty high up in the sky so He put up a kit of hens that didnt waste any time showing me what they were about, some big breaks and three or four hens that were pretty fast and had the kind of deapth that I like,DEEAP. I was impressed. He has been in the game for awhile and knows how to get what he wants. We had some good conversations on a number of topics, just like on the posts on this site. Elmer called up Doug Tretter to see if he was home and he was so we went to see his birds fly. Doug is another nice guy that been around for awhile. He put a very active kit that flew where you could see them, and the quality was evident. It is very apparent that there are good birds all over the country. Doug showed me his breeding setup, I like the way everbody tweeks things to fit their situation and make it work. We had more discussions about the birds, families, and flyers. Dough spoke very highly of George R whom I have never met but I read his post and responses on this site. I just wanted to say Thanks to Elmer and Doug for letting me see their birds fly and showing me their setups on such short notice. I think it also says something about the guys who fly these great little athletes. So thanks again and we will meet again somewhere down the road.
